when I tasted the sky
was to look for my soul
hoping I'd find it
among the stars
The first thing I did
when I broke the chains
that bound me
was to trade my life
for something
I thought to be
worthwhile to me
The first thing I did
when the moon refused
to light my way
was to stretch my hand
just to feel the grass
beneath me
The last thing I did
when my breath ran dry
was to look at the sky
and remember
how it tasted
The last thing I did
before I surrendered
my soul to the cages
that bound me before
was to get back
what I lost in my
attempt to be free
The last thing I did
when the sun did not
shine for me anymore
was to find my way
in the dark until
I cannot find myself
and the face I wore
