How far have we traveled
just to see where
we belonged all along
Through the brittle
bridges of life
Perhaps, through the
salty thorns as well
How far have we traveled
just to see where we began? It had been quick
—the fire burns
without us knowing—
Perhaps it would be
just as fast when the embers
we held will be dyingHow far have we known
this road to be waiting
and fearing what
we knew to be the end
Through hard edges
of feelings and
words left unsaid
Perhaps through anger
and dark thoughts
left unchecked
How far have we known
this road for us to live again? It would be slow
—the fall from the
lofty heights alone
of our expectations—
Perhaps it would be messy
as broken people hurt
in order to love—unforgiving
Darling, how far would we
have to walk hand in hand
before we need to start living?
