"NEXT PERFORMER! Anong number na ba tayo? Ha? Number seventeen, nandiyan ka ba? NUMBER SEVENTEEN!"
Napaangat ang mga balikat ko nang biglang sumigaw ang direktor. I was so absorbed in reading the script na kahit isang simpleng kilos ay gugulat na sa 'kin. Napatingin ako sa aking number. Baka kasi ako ang hinahanap niya. Number nineteen pala. May dalawa pang mag-o-audition bago ako.

Ilang beses din akong huminga nang malalim para pakalmahin ang sarili ko. Ganito talaga kapag bago ako mag-perform sa harap ng mga tao. Mabilis ang tibok ng puso. Nanlalamig ang mga kamay. Walang tigil ang fidgeting. Pero kapag nasa mismong stage na ako, nawawala ang lahat ng kaba at nake-carried away na ako sa eksena.
I was auditioning for the lead female role in the modern Romeo and Juliet play. Noong bata pa ako, lagi akong pinapag-audition ni Mama sa baby o kids commercials. Pinag-acting workshop pa nga niya ako para mahasa ang galing ko sa pag-arte. I didn't want to be an actress or a model, but my mom kept on telling me na dapat gamitin ko ang itsura at talent ko. She said it would be such a shame if I wasted my gift from God. Since then, I had believed na isa ako sa mga pinagpala at hindi ko dapat i-take for granted kung ano'ng meron ako.
That's when I began to share my mother's dream for me. Lagi akong nag-o-audition kapag may talent search. Kadalasa'y hindi pinapalad, but that's okay! Ang importante ay ang experience. Noong high school ako, I joined our theater club. Kahit putso-putso ang production, pinatulan ko na. Ang mahalaga'y magkaroon ako ng karanasan at ma-develop ko lalo ang pagmamahal sa acting.
Ngayong nasa college na ako, I decided to take up Theater Arts as my course. Surprisingly, my mom was against my decision despite her setting me up on this path early in my childhood. Pero ipinaglaban ko sa kanya ang gusto ko. I had been preparing for this my entire life. This was where I wanted to be. Sa huli'y wala siyang nagawa kundi tanggapin ang desisyon ko. She wished me the best and hoped I wouldn't be disheartened in the future.
The university where I was enrolled had been showing two theater productions every year. Kapag may audition para sa lead role, hindi ko pinalalampas. Last year, masuwerte kong nakuha ang role ni Mulan. This year, balak ko namang kunin ang role ni Juliet. Kaya nandito ako ngayon.
Sa auditorium ginaganap ang audition para sa casting. Auditionees hid behind the panels of the stage, peeking through the curtains sa kung sino ang nakasalang sa entablado. Isa ako sa mga naki-tsismis. Siyempre, I wanted to see how my fellow aspirants did.
