Chapter 40

•Alex's P.O.V•

"You sure you're ready, Alex?" Zielo asked, a concerned frown spread across his face. I stood in the common room, dressed in my uniform, which Martina, the pixie that made my original one, had repaired.

"Yeah, I mean, Its only been a couple of days since... you know." Aarya added. I looked down at my bandages arm then turned back to them.

"I'll be honest, I still haven't fully recovered from what happened on Monday morning..." I clenched my fist and smiled at them. "But I think I'm ready now."

"But what about Axel?" Damian asked.

"Yeah, he's been picking on a lot of the elementals lately." Cameron added.

"And he's in your Pyrokinetics class, isn't he?" Celest said.

"Don't worry about that." I said. "I have ways to deal with Axel."

"Well I have faith in you Al." Celest said cheerfully. Keith put his clawed hand on my shoulder.

"If he bothers you, just say the word and I'll tear him apart." He growled. I shot Keith a surprised and somewhat scared glance. Keith had always been the friendly one in our team, but that friendly expression was replaced by an enraged fanged snarl and wild furrowed brows. I took his hand off my shoulder and flashed him a reassuring smile.

"Seriously, I'll be fine guys. You can stop worrying about me now." I said. Keith's snarl slowly faded.

"Well then, in that case we should all get going. Our classes start in a few minutes." Damian said, tapping his watch.

"Oh right! Don't we have Geography now?" Zack asked.

"Yup." Cameron replied.

"Then what are we just standing around for!?"

•••

"Phew, last class of the day." Aaron sighed, flapping his wings tiredly.

"Final 45 minutes." Aarya yawned.

"Wait, don't we have..." I muttered. I checked the class schedule, and I felt a cloud of some sorts look over me. I'd forgotten that the last class we had on Tuesdays was elemental mastery.

A.K.A. Pyrokinetics.

"Looks like I'm finally gonna have to confront Axel." I muttered, stuffing the schedule in my pocket.

"Right..." Keith let out a low growl. I stared at him.

"Okay, you've been growling all day, especially when I mentioned Axel. What gives?" I asked. He looked away.

"I just don't like the guy, okay?" Keith replied. I tilted my head skeptically.

"Lets not worry about that." Zielo said with a small smile. "Want me to walk you to your class?"

"Yeah, sure." I replied.

"I'll come too." Keith said, arms crossed. I gave him a confused stare, but thought it would be better not to ask.

"Alright, so, meet you guys after school?" Zack said.

"Water fountain in the main quad?" Cameron asked.

"Like always." Natalie said. We all nodded as the school bell rang.

With that we all made our way to our classes. Zielo and Keith escorted me to mine as promised. As I walked past the other elementals, I caught them whispering amongst each other. News had gotten out about what happened in the arena on Monday, and since then, it was apparently all the school could talk about. Most of the whispering was about me, I'm sure, but I always pushed that to the back of my mind. We stopped in front of my class. I stood in front of the door, staring at the handle anxiously. Zielo gave my hand a soft squeeze of reassurance and smiled.
