Chapter 60

•Alex's P.O.V•

A subtle ringing... accompanied by a numbing tingling sensation... and a dark void.

That was all I was aware of for a while. At this point whether I was alive was debatable. Though, I've never really felt what death was like, so I couldn't be too sure. But slowly, the tingling started to feel different. Like millions of tiny sparks flowing through my veins. Sparks that began to to turn into a warm fire.

My eyes shot open. I sat up slowly, groaning quietly to myself as I held my head. I was t too sure why, but for some reason my head was pounding. I could barely think coherently before the pain caused my train of thought to go off the rails a second later. I instead decided to take a look around, get my bearings.

And wouldn't you know it, but I was in the infirmary.

"How did I get here this time...?" I muttered to myself. I rubbed the side of my head and felt soft fabric wrapped around it. I then looked down at my arm and found even more bandages wrapped around. I hummed to myself.

I felt around for my magic mirror, except it was nowhere to be found. Then I remembered a spell Celest taught me. I sparked a small flame at my fingertip and drew a small circle in front of me, creating a ring of fire a few inches in front of my face.

"Mirror of flames."

With that, the inside of the circle began to glow with a bright orange light, and after a while, my reflection appeared inside it. Only, I was a lot more banged up than I first thought...

Not only for I have bandages wrapped around my head, but also a huge bandaid on my cheek, another one on my neck and a smaller one across my left eyebrow. I looked at my reflection closely, trying to remember just how I got all these injuries.

Then in a flash, I remembered.

Instantly, almost all at once, the events if the battle with the Corrupted King began to replay. Everything from the tunnels to Damian teleporting us, the library, the throne room, everyone getting corrupted and me unlocking a new form to defeat him with.

And, of coarse, letting the Corrupted King get away...

Everything after that was a blur. It felt so dream-like, hard to wrap my head around. But seeing as how I was currently in the infirmary, my guess is that I was brought here after the battle, patched up and have been asleep since. And as if on cue, nurse Evergreen walked through the door.

"Oh, well, good morning, mr. Fier." She greeted with a warm smile across her face, as usual. "How are you feeling?"

"Uh...I'm still kinda tired, and maybe a little...dizzy? I'm not too sure, really." I replied, my tiredness seeping into my voice.

"Well, nothing a good honeynut tea couldn't fix." She beamed. A saucer with a little teacup floated in through the door, landing right in my hands. "One sugar, right?"

"Yeah, thank you." I took a sip of the delicious golden tea, savoring the flavour across every bit of my tongue. I let out a relaxed breath.

"So, I heard that you attained a new form during your battle. Care to give a little more info on that?" The nurse asked, sipping a cup of her own tea.

"Oh. Well-"

I was cut off when I heard a knock at the door. Nurse Evergreen set her cup down on a nearby table. "One moment."

She went over to the door and peered through. I heard voices on the other side. Worried voices. The nurse nodded before turning back to me with a smile.
