In the forest, Ash and Cloud were exploring the forest with Rillaboom, who decides to play with his drums. The sound wakes up Rowlet, who suddenly flies out of Ash's backpack and begins pestering Rillaboom.
Rowlet: Row, Row!
Rillaboom: Rilla?
Rotom Dex: Rillaboom, I don't think Rowlet appreciated you playing while it's sleeping.
Cloud: Really? I guess even Rowlet can't stay asleep when Rillaboom does his magic.
Rillaboom dismisses Rotom and continues playing, making Rowlet pout it's cheeks.
Rowlet: Row...!
Ash: Come on, knock it off.
Ash grabs Rowlet, who falls asleep again.
Cloud: I know Rowlets are night creatures, so it's normal for them to sleep during the day, but too much sleep isn't good for ya. So just like Lycanroc's temper, it's about time you do something about Rowlet's sleeping habits.
Ash: That's easier said than done...
Cloud: I know. Let's have a battle.
Ash: A battle? Sounds great! Let's do it! Come on, Rowlet!
Rowlet: Zzz...
Rowlet flies on top on Ash's head, still asleep.

Ash: Rowlet... Cloud wants to battle you.
Rowlet tilts its head.
Rowlet: Row...?
Ash: I wanna battle with you, too!
Rowlet flies towards Rillaboom and glares at him.
Rowlet: Let...!
Rillaboom: Boom?
They arrive at an open area within the forest to battle.
Cloud: Rillaboom, let's not hold back.
Rillaboom: Rillaboom!
Eevee: Eievuvui!
Ash: All right, let's go, Rowlet!
Rowlet: Rowlet!
Pikachu: Pika, Pika!
Before the battle could even begin, Rillaboom intimidates Rowlet with a ferocious look.
