"Y/N, you have to go. We've already promised that the whole family will be there. That includes you." Your mother says to you as she rushes around your room.

"Can I just go to the party? Tell your boss I'm sick or something." You reply as you lie in bed. You pull the covers over your head and sigh.

Your family had been invited to a new years day party, hosted by your mother's boss. Clearly your mother wanted to please her, since she had bought you a new dress and had offered to do your hair and makeup to perfection for the party. But you'd really rather spend new years at your friends party, one your mother didn't want you to go to.

"No, you can't go to that party. I've heard bad things come out of teenage house parties. Besides, I already have the dress for you." You hear your mother walk over to your bed. She yanks the covers down and you immediately hiss and curl up into a ball. "You're going Y/N. That's final."

She leaves the room and you groan in frustration. After a few minutes of sulking, you get out of bed and make your way over to your wardrobe. You open it to find the dress hanging there and you have to admit, it's a nice dress.

"Still gonna complain the whole time." You mutter as you take it off the hanger.

You lay it down on your bed and quickly do your hair and makeup without your mother's help because you're a strong independent woman who don't need no help.

Soon enough, night had fallen and it was about half ten when your mother starts shouting up the stairs for you to hurry up.

"Be there in a minute!" You yell back.

You put on the dress and rush downstairs where your family was waiting for you. You glare at your mother but she ignores your expression and quickly checks over your hair.

"Now then, be polite when we see my boss and don't do anything stupid. I know she has a son about your age, so why don't you make a friend while you're there? Oh, and, behave."

"Oh lovely, someone to embarrass myself in front of. Brilliant." You mutter, grabbing a jacket and putting it on.

You all walk out the front door and get into the car. On the way to the party, your mother talks about what you had to too and what you had to say to her boss, in great detail. You block her out by listening to music the whole journey.

When you arrive, you can immediately tell how rich this person was. The house was massive and there were lights and cars surrounding, as if they were famous. No wonder your mother wanted to make a good impression. You take your ear phones out to hear your mother's next instructions.

"Now then. Everyone, pretend you're meeting the queen, okay?" Your mother says as you all get out of the car.

"You'd think by the way you're acting, we really were." You mutter, reinserting the ear buds in your ears.

"Y/N! Get those out of your ears!" You mother hisses as you approach the front door of the house.

You sigh and shove the phone and earphones into your jacket pocket. The door opens the most posh looking woman ever stands there, beaming.

"Hello! So glad you could make it!" She says, shaking your parents hands.

"Thanks for the invite!" You mother replies, her smile more forced than a barbie doll's.

"Come in, come in!" The woman says, stepping back.

As you walk in, a butler immediately reaches out to take your jacket. You manage to grab the phone and ear phones just in time before it gets hung up.
