1.52 Rick...Do It

They had put Dad into a unfinished house, keeping him there as a prisoner.

Michonne was watching him. I didn't want to see him.

It was getting colder. And I hated it.

I was at home with Carl.

the front door opened.

Carl and I stood up and walked to the front door.

He ran to dad and hugged him " Dad"

Dad " hey. "

Carl " You okay?"

Dad nodded" yeah. Look, I'm sorry"

I walked to the kitchen counter and sat down.

Dad and Carl walked into the kitchen.

Carl " I heard about the meeting. "

Dad nodded " you're staying home."

Carl asked hopefully " That's what is now now, right? Home?"

Dad thought about it but then nodded" yeah. "

Carl " They need us. They'll die without us"

Dad " I might have to threaten one of them. I would have to kill one of them."

Carl shook his head" You won't "

Dad nodded" I might"

Carl " You have to tell them."

Dad " I told them last night. "

Carl " You have to tell them so they can hear you."

Dad shook his head " I don't know if they can. Does that make you afraid? "

Carl "Just for them. You have to tell them"

Dad then walked to me " I'm sorry"

I looked at him " this place is safe. For us and for Judith. She has food and a bed. Don't fuck this up"

Dad nodded.

I nodded" good"

Dad " what's with Daryl? You heard anything from him?"

I shrugged" guess, he went out with Aaron "

Dad nodded " He'll come back"

I nodded " I know. You like Jessie, don't you?"

Dad sighed.

Me " I won't stop you, Dad"

Dad then walked out.

Night.

All of us except Carl, Dad, Daryl and Glenn came to the meeting. A couple of others including Deanna were here too. We were all sitting around a little fire. Dad was supposed to come but he wasn't here.

Deanna " We're going to start"

Maggie" can we wait? There's still people coming. Glenn, Rick."

Deanna " We're going to start. It's already dark. We're gonna talk about what happened. Not the fight. Not what precipitated it. We're dealing with that. We're going to talk about one of our constables, Rick Grimes. We're going to talk about how he had a pistol he stoles from the armory, about how he pointed it at people. And we're going to talk about what he said. I was hoping he'd be here"

Me " He's coming. And he'll be here so that we can work this out."

After a while he didn't come. Crap.

I stood up " we were out there since the beginning. Never save. We have lost family members and best friends. We never were really safe out there no matter how much we worked for a place to stay safe. And at the end we still survived and that because Dad made decisions to protect us, which no one in this group could have done. He took the lead because he wanted us safe and to live. The same he wants for your people. And who he is is you're gonna be....if you're lucky."

Carol stood up " Rick Grimes saved my life over and over. There's terrifying people out there. And he rescued me from them. People like me, people like us need people like him. I know what happened last night was scary. And I'm sure he's sorry for that. But maybe we should listen to what he was saying."

Maggie " my father respected Rick Grimes. Rick is a father, too. He's a man with a good heart who feels the things he does, the things he has to do. And all of us who were together before this place, no matter when we found each other, we're a family now. Rick started that. And he won't stop it. You can't. And you don't want to. This community, you people....that family...you want a be a part of it, too. "

Deanna " Before we hear from anyone else , I would like to share something in the spirit of transparency. Father Gabriel came to see me the day before yesterday and he said our new arrivals can't be trusted, that they were dangerous, that they would put themselves before this community. And not one day later, Rick seemed to demonstrate all the things Father Gabriel said. I had hoped Gabriel would be here tonight. "

Jessie " I don't see him here, Deanna. So you're just saying what someone said. Did you tape him?"

Maggie shook his head " He's not here"

Deanna " neither is Rick"

Maggie " excuse me"

Then she left.

Dad came in all bloody and with a dead walker over his shoulder.

He threw the walker in front of our feet " There wasn't a guard on the gate. It was open."

A man " I asked Gabriel to close it."

Deanna " go"

He left.

Dad " I didn't bring it in . it got inside on its own. They always will....the dead and the living, because we're in here. And the ones out there..they'll hunt us . they'll find us. They'll try to use us. They'll try to kill us. But we'll kill them. We'll survive. I'll show you how. You know, i was thinking....I was thinking how many of toy do I have to kill to save your lives? But I'm not gonna do that. You're gonna change. I'm not sorry for what I said last night. I'm sorry for not saying it sooner. You're not ready, but you have to be. Right now , you a have to be. Luck runs out."

Then Pete showed up. He looked bad. His face was beaten up.
I held back a laugh.

Pete " you're not one of us. You're not one of us. !"

He had one of my blades in his hand.

My jaw dropped.

Deanna's husband tried to stop him Pete slid his throat open.

She began to cry. Abraham pushed Pete to the ground and held him there.

Abraham " stop"

Deanna was down.

Pete yelled " this is him! It's him!"

Deanna " Rick..do it"

Dad shot Pete in the head.

Aaron, Daryl and Morgan showed up.

Morgan " Rick?"
