Kara Kent-Lang hadn't taken a single breath in five minutes. This would have been more concerning to her husband had she the need to breathe. "You okay?" He finally spoke once he finished his bowl of cereal.

Kara was staring at her computer screen, her finger over the trackpad, positioned to click at any moment and submit the form. "Hm?" She asked after a moment before she finally took a breath.

"You've been on that webpage for as long as I've been eating" (y/n) replied simply.

"Oh!" Kara quickly stood up, confusing (y/n) until she took his bowl and spoon and brought them to the sink before beginning to slowly turn on the water and clean them. She was putting it off once again.

"Kara if you don't want to apply for this job then don't do it" (y/n) spoke simply as he watched her tense up at the mere suggestion.

"I- no" she shook her head. "I want to apply" she spoke as she poured some dish soap in the bowl and began to rub it.

"Fine" (y/n) took her computer and brought it over to himself. "So you won't mind if I-" before his finger could touch the trackpad Kara had sped over to him and grabbed his arm. "See? You don't want to. We can find you something else"

"It's not the job" Kara replied simply as she rubbed her eyes tiredly with her free hand. "I'm just... hesitant"

"I know" (y/n) responded after a moment of silence. "You sure you don't want to try to ask Bruce for another job?"

Kara shook her head. "I'm not flying or running to work anymore. I need somewhere close. Only thing he owns near here is the bank and that's not exactly my speed"

"You could be a security guard" (y/n) countered.

Kara shook her head again. "I don't want to do anything which would tempt me to go back to what I used to do" (y/n) knew she wasn't referring to her cheerleading job.

"Okay" (y/n) spoke with a nod. "Then this is what you want to do?"

Kara was silent after hearing that question. "It's all I can do. My resume only consists of a cheerleading job from years ago and I never went to college"

"Fair point" (y/n) removed his arm from Kara's grip and took her hand in his. "But I'm sure you can find something else if you'd rather that"

"We need money" Kara retorted with a serious expression.

"We can hold out for a while longer" (y/n) shrugged. "We're not in a huge rush. Take some time to consider your options"

Kara quickly leaned down and kissed her husband on the cheek. "Okay. Love you"

(Y/n) squeezed her hand in response. "I know. Now go finish the dishes you started doing"

"Fuck off" Kara laughed and ripped her hand away before walking back to the sink and throwing a plastic cup at her husband who laughed as it hit him in the chest and bounced off of him.

Kara lay on the roof of their home as she considered her options. What would she do? What kind of job could she get that she'd actually enjoy?

She had been on the verge of signing up to work in construction but she didn't think she'd enjoy doing something like that for a living. While it came easy to her it wasn't much fun.

Perhaps she could look into the trades? Although she was ninety percent sure those required more school. She couldn't afford to put herself through school and keep this house. She knew (y/n) would get a job to support them if she asked but she also knew he didn't want one. Best to think up another option.

After a couple minutes of bad ideas her mind suddenly came to the worst idea. Back when she had been supergirl, shortly before their engagement, she had done a few singing gigs. Karaoke nights in france, the Smallville town fair, the American national anthem before some baseball games, etc. She had been pretty good.

"No" Kara shook her head. "No, that's a bad idea" she couldn't help but smile as the feeling of how much she had enjoyed those moments came back to her. "A bad idea"

"Why are you up on the roof?" Kara quickly sat up as she heard that. She looked down and spotted her husband on the ground in front of the house.

"You're the one who wants me to go outside more" she spoke as if it were obvious.

"You know I meant in public" that comment was enough to startle Kara into realizing that when thinking about her possible career in singing she hadn't even considered the fact that she'd need to be around many people at once. She was even more startled now to realize how little that idea scared her just compared to how much walking around aimlessly in town scared her.

"Right" Kara frowned and scooted on she butt towards the edge of the roof before jumping down and landing beside her husband. "Let's go"

"Huh?" (Y/n)'s look of confusion at Kara's quick change in personality caused the girl to giggle as she took his hand and lead him inside.

"Yeah. I'll get changed and we can go out" Kara spoke as they walked towards the bedroom to go find her an outfit.

"I- alright" Kara was happy that the boy hadn't decided to question this. She didn't want to tell him about the career that she had been considering just yet. "Can we at least take the car? My back is aching"

"Trying to go on a walk with you is like trying to go for a walk with Pa" Kara rolled her eyes at his question as they entered the bedroom and she quickly undressed before beginning her search for clothes.

"Please never make that comparison again" (y/n) frowned at the fact that she had the audacity to get naked after comparing him to her adopted father. He looked away as she got changed and he tried to wipe that line from his memory. "Please"

Kara couldn't help but laugh at what she considered to be his ridiculousness. "Whatever you say Pa"

"Kara-"

"Would Daddy be better?" That question instantly silenced the boy which in turn caused Kara to burst into laughter as she finished getting dressed.

"I'm just going to wait outside" (y/n) turned and walked away as he rubbed his reddening face and closed the door behind him.

"I'll take that as a yes!" Kara called out after him. "Love you, Daddy!"

(I ALWAYS get people who want the love interests of my story to be referred to by the MC as Mommy. Decided I'd do the opposite as a way of almost giving it and then turning that into a "Ha! Fuck you" moment. The Mommy thing is whatever the opposite of a turn on is for me so that will never happen here)
