Devastated was an understatement. Whumper had returned and sent a message to Whumpee's workplace via bouquet. They used language that only Whumpee could put together to reveal the actual note.
"Ohhhh how nice! Flowers! You're so lucky- hey are you ok?"
"I'm fine." Whumpee blinked back tears. They knew that they'd be labeled dramatic and crazy if they tried to report flowers to the police.
"Are you sure? These weren't for a death in the family was it?"
"I said I'm fine, just surprised by the gesture," Whumpee lied.
