Two Months later
Even though she knew it would upset Emily Nikki had just pulled into the Barnes shelter for their Thanksgiving dinner. Bucky was standing outside talking to his uncles Beau and Maxwell when she pulled in. He seen her get out of her car he excused himself and walked over to here.
"Hey where have you been? You didn't even come to Nat's little girl's birthday last month." He said
"I told you all that I was keeping my distance. I don't want to do anything that will upset you all and you all turn your back on me again." She said as she got Zara out of her car seat.
"Nicole. We apologized for all that." He said as he popped her trunk.
She got Saylor out of the car when Bucky said. "Oh my god I've missed these babies.."
Bucky seen the two cakes she made for Thanksgiving dinner. The two cakes he loves when she would bring them. He helped her carry them in when he got to his mom.
"Put these in a safe place they are mine." He said
"James..you can't claim two whole cakes. She made them for everyone." Winnie said
Nikki said hi to everyone she introduced the girls to Bucky's grandmother Ingrid. Emily came out of the bathroom with Ashlynn when she seen her. She silently rolled her eyes as Ashlynn took off to Saylor. Emily seen her make a bottle for Zara using a breast milk bag.
"I thought you had implants put in." Emily said as she walked over to her.
"I did. You can still breast feed Emily. It doesn't affect milk. She's been cutting teeth so I switched to my pump. Especially since I work 12-14 hr shifts. I work as ICU/CCU nurse." She said with a curt tone.
"Then who watches your kids." Emily said
"My mother. Why are you so interested in my mothering skills?" She said
"I'm just trying to figure out why you would leave your husband and move up here where you have very little support." She said
Bucky heard her as he walked over to the table. "Em..that's enough." He said
"Look Emily you may not like me. But this is my hometown where I grew up it's not my fault my parents are divorced. But I won't sit here and let you act like I'm a bad mother cause i left my abusive husband. So stay the hell out of my business.." Nikki said
"Emily..go." Bucky said
"Of course you gotta protect your precious princess. And then you wonder why I said it feels like this marriage has three people in it." She said and walked off.
Bucky sat down beside her. "You okay?"
"Yeah..but you.." she said
"Nikki..we all miss you. You don't know how hard it's been to have to tell Ashlynn she can't play with her friend Saylor. She wants her to come over all the time or go over to your house. And our friends they are sorry.." he said
"Yeah they were sorry in college too..until I fucked up again." She said
He looked down. "Nicole..I'm sorry that's my fault. I lost it when I seen you with Riley. It hurt to see you move on but not because I wanted you back but because he has money." He said
"Bucky..you know me better than that." She said
"I thought I did. I never thought you would develop a eating disorder and sleep around." He said
She looked down.
"Time to eat!"
Everyone made their plates and began to eat. After awhile everyone ate dessert some of the older couples took to the area that had space and began to slow dance to some old records. Once Nikki got her girls together they were starting leave.
Bucky came over to her. "Where are you going?" He said
"Home.." she said
"Why?" He said
"Because I need to sleep. I have to be at work at 2AM." She said
"Nicole..it's barely 2pm." He said
"So..I'm getting tired of the dirty looks everytime you talk to me." She said
Bucky saw Emily he walked over to her. "What is your problem?" He said
"My problem is her. I don't understand that just because you two have a son who is dead that she is still allowed around here. She fucking cheated on you and yet everyone acts like she is some grand prize." Emily said
Nikki heard her and she was seething. "What is it going to take James for you to love me?" Emily said
"You don't get to talk about my son! He is my son that I share with James. And I swear to God if you ever talk about my son again I will make sure you never do it again." Nikki said as tears fell down her cheeks.
"James honey why don't you two go cool off get some air." Ingrid said
Winnie cut her daughter in law a look that could kill. "You have some nerve. And I told you that she will always be apart of this family. She was apart of it long before you came along and she will be apart of it long after you.." Winnie said
"I'm not going anywhere. You can't force me and James to divorce." Emily said
"No I can't. He can figure that out all on his own. But just know this sweetheart when he is finally ready to admit that he yes still is in love with her your ass will be gone." Winnie said
"Whatever I'm leaving. This is such bullshit that she gets special treatment." Emily said as she left the thanksgiving dinner.
Bucky came home that night he seen her on the couch folding clothes. He went on upstairs to their bedroom. She came upstairs to see him packing a duffel bag.
"What are you doing?" She said
"I'm gonna go stay with my parents for a couple of days. I can't be around you right now." He said
"Bucky?" She said
"You are a mother Emily! How can you sit here and be a mother and say something so hurtful! Yes we know he isn't living but he is still our son! You have no idea what that day was like for us!" He yelled
"Well I would if you would talk to me.."she said
"No even if I did you still wouldn't understand." He said as he zipped his bag and walked out.
"Bucky I'm sorry.." she said as he slammed the front door.
