"Hey Barnes..you alright?" Sam said as they found him crying on the porch.
"I fucked up.." he said as he opened his beer.
Two other bottles was sitting in front of him empty.
"What do you mean? Did you and Emily split?" Clint said
"I talked to Nicole. She was doing laundry at the girls. I fucked up so bad.." he said
"What did she say?" Steve said
"She told me..that the reason why she cheated was because she felt like I was pushing her away. That Maci told her that it looked like I was breaking up with her.." he said
"So she sleeps with someone else?" Clint said
"What he said.." Sam said
"That's not the point. I wasn't myself that summer I..even when she was in town she only got me sleeping on her. I was so fucking tired between football and work. I neglected the one thing that meant more than anything to me. I put you all before her..I never would have done that. I broke her heart she said she cried and cried every night." He said
"Bucky I'm sorry that you feel guilty. But she still cheated what she did was wrong no matter the circumstances." Sam said
"I know something is wrong with her health wise. She's not herself anymore..I saw the size on her jeans it said double zero. Nikki has always been tiny but never that tiny. I'm scared that she is sick and dying." He said
"Buck.." Steve said
"I fucked up so bad and now I've lost her for good. She will never forgive me for this.." he said as he wiped tears.
"When you said you put us before her. Are you talking about the trip?" Steve said
"Yes. The camping trip was the only days I put in to take off so I didn't put in any days for her cause I had already put in for the seven days for the camping trip. Now looking back on it she did get quiet the night I told her and didn't feel like talking to me." He said
Emily happened to be standing in the kitchen listening to the whole conversation. She has come in after her class was over. She fought back the urge to say something to the effect that they were married and he needed to let it go.
That night Steve was watching a movie with Wanda. "Nikki finally told Bucky the truth." He said
"I know she told me." Wanda said
"I feel awful Wanda. I planned a camping trip for me and my friends forgetting that Nikki would be in Florida. That she spends her school breaks down there. I didn't even think about the fact that she wouldn't be here to have time with Bucky like you all had with us." He said
"Steve baby it's in the past now. You can't go back and change it. All you can do now is apologize and go on with our lives." Wanda said as she looked up at him.
"Yeah.." Steve said as they went to sleep.
