That night when everyone was asleep, Maddy decided to escape

That night when everyone was asleep, Maddy decided to escape. She knew how to unlock the door and knew where exactly Xander's room was. What else did she need?

She waited until she was sure that everyone was sleeping. She didn't have access to a watch so didn't what exactly the time was but she assumed that it was around midnight.

Maddy took all the stationery items and stuffed them into her pockets. With the diary on one hand and the key on the other, Maddy decided that she was ready to go.

The plan was simple. She would break out of her room. No one lived on the floor where Maddy and Xander were so Maddy wasn't worried about waking up any shifter even though shifters could hear the slightest of sounds.

The ground floor was where everyone stayed so it would be difficult to navigate through that floor, but Maddy wasn't worried. The front door was opposite to the living room which was usually crowded, which was why it was harder to escape. Since, it was near midnight, everyone would be sleeping which made it a lot easier.

Besides, one huge advantage that Maddy had was the element of surprise. Since she had been so predictable for the past week, no one would even suspect that she would escape when it isn't a break.

She took the key and approached the lock. It was dark inside the room so it took some time to figure out where the lock exactly was. She slowly inserted the key and grinned when it fit in perfectly. She turned the key but forgot that it was made of cardboard and not metal. She pressed it too hard and the key bent at an awkward angle. Maddy knew that the key would be of no use now, so she didn't bother tying once again.

Instead, she took out the second copy of the key and inserted it in the lock. This time, she gently turned the key and gave a small whoop when she heard the click noise of the lock unlocking. One lock down, one more to go.

Maddy took out the business card of the company Dekart Mark from her pocket. She had seen a video some time ago on how to pick a door knob lock or whatever it is called. And no, she didn't see that video to pick a lock.

That's one problem that writers face. A writer needs to search things on google that really shouldn't be searched. Like ever. It is a surprise that the cops didn't come knocking on her door because of her searching things like 'places to hide a body' and 'creative ways to kill a person.'

In the video, they had shown how to use a card to open a door that is locked from the other side. What the guy in the video basically did was that he inserted the lock in between the door and the door frame, just above the latch. Then he basically swiped it downwards and the latch opened. Maddy had tried it at home as she found it very interesting. It had worked perfectly back at her house which was why Maddy was sure that it would work even now.

Maddy swiped her finger on the edge of the card and then tried to put it in between the door and the door frame. That's when things started going wrong. The gap between the door and door frame was too thin for the card to fit in. Maddy struggled for some time desperately trying to fit it in. She wasn't ready to give up. She was so close to getting out.

When the card still didn't fit in, Maddy threw the card against the wall with frustration. Tears started to flow down her cheeks. Maddy furiously wiped them away. She had been so close to freedom that she could almost smell it. Maddy took out the diary and started scribbling the paper with the pen. Once she had let out all her frustration on the poor piece of paper, Maddy leaned against the door and tried to think of another way to unlock the door.

She locked herself in once again using the key so that tooth-necklace lady doesn't figure out that she has a copy of the key and took out the stationery items out of her pocket and dumped them on the bed. She leaned on the door once again with her face in her hands and thought, thought and thought until she fell asleep.

The next morning, she woke up because of loud banging. She groaned and slowly opened her eyes. For a minute, she thought that she had escaped as she didn't wake up to the sight of the ceiling of the room like the past week. Then she realized that she had fallen asleep leaning on the door in an extremely awkward position.

"Stop leaning on the damn door or you don't get food for the rest of the day."

That got Maddy out of her sleeping state. Maddy loved her food too much for her to give it up for even a day. That was when Maddy realized that the diary, the copies of the keys and all the other stationary items were on the bed.

"One minute. I am... naked right now! Don't open the door," Maddy shouted. Maddy cringed at what she had just said. That was the first thing that came to her mind and she had just blurted it out.

Maddy shoved all the items under the bed and after making sure that everything looked normal, she shouted out loud, "You can come in."

Tooth-necklace lady came in with the breakfast, muttering something about stupid humans. She dropped the food near the bed.

Maddy stared at the food. It was a piece of bread with a little bit of peanut butter. After Leia told her the fact about rodent hairs being in the peanut butter jars, Maddy had been sure that she wouldn't eat peanut butter ever again, but desperate times call for desperate measures. Beside the plate of food was a plastic bottle. As she stared at the plastic bottle an idea struck her mind. There might be a small, very small chance that she could still escape.
