With the hockey season over, you decided to take Joe on a weekend trip to a Bed and Breakfast to get away from all the people so that the two of you could have some much needed time together.

It would take five and a half hours to get to the Bed and Breakfast, so you guys decided to leave on Friday afternoon to get there Friday evening and have three nights together before making the return drive Monday afternoon, since you were supposed to go spend the rest of the week with his parents.

As soon as Joe started heading out of the city, both of you could feel a weight lifting from your shoulders. Hockey season was a hard time in any of the players' relationship because it meant being away from family—wives and girlfriends—for long periods of time. But now it was just you, Joe and the road.

Every mile you drove away from Winnipeg, the more and more relaxed you and Joe felt.

The first hour of the drive was the part of navigating through the city and the suburbs, and the car stayed pretty quiet, neither of you wanting to break the soothing silence. Joe kept his hand in yours, resting on the center consul, his thumb rubbing soft circles on the top of your hand.

Once he got on the motorway, that's when you plugged in your aux cord and started to play your special road trip playlist filled with all your favourite happy, romantic and fun songs. Joe laughed as the music came through the speakers, but he nonetheless started to sing the songs with you.

He knew all your favourite songs and he knew all the words to them.

So the car was filled with laughter and off key singing and a lot of happiness. And the car stayed like that for another three hours until Joe pulled off your rout to fill up the car's tank of gas. You got out of the car to stretch your legs. By then night had fallen and since you were so far away from the big cities, you could see the stars.

You tilted your chin back as you took in the stars. You hadn't seen them in so long. Winnipeg was a city filled with light pollution.

When Joe finished filling the car, he joined you in looking at the stars.

"It's beautiful, isn't it?" You asked him when you felt his hand press against your lower back.

"Not as beautiful as you." He replied, pressing a kiss to your temple.

You felt a blush rise to your cheeks. "Joe..."

"It's true. You're the most beautiful person I have ever met. You're the most beautiful thing in the universe." Joe smiled down at you, leaning down to connect your lips in a soft kiss.

When he pulled back, you patted his chest. "Get in the car, we need to get to that Bed and Breakfast."

Once the two of you got to the Bed and Breakfast, you flopped onto the bed, ready for bed after a long day of travelling, but Joe had other plans.

He opened one of the bottles of wine that he had packed and pored both of you a glass of wine before joining you in bed.

"What's this about?" You asked him.

Joe smiled and wrapped his arm around your shoulders, pulling you against him. "I know you're tired, but we haven't had time like this together in a while, so I'm going to enjoy it. How about I put on a movie, we sip our wine and just enjoy each other's company until you fall asleep?"

You smiled up at your boyfriend and pushed yourself up so that you could kiss his cheek. "I think I like the sound of that."
