"I never meant to hurt you." William said, stepping closer to you.

You took a step back and raised your hands, signalling to him not to come any closer.

"Don't." You whispered and William tightened his lips. "Don't," you repeated. "Tell me you didn't mean to hurt me when you're the one that cheated."

William's shoulders fell and he nodded. "And for that, I am so, so sorry."

You shook your head and turned to walk away, planning on leaving him alone in your living room while you went to bed to be alone with your thoughts and feelings. But, you couldn't bring yourself to leave without asking him the question that was burning you from the inside out.

You came to a stop at the entryway to the hall. You had one foot in the living room and one foot out in the hall with your hand resting in the doorway. You didn't turn around because you didn't want to see his face.

"Why?" You asked softly, your voice just barely above a whisper.

"I'm sorry?" William said, not sure what you had said.

You turned your head slowly letting your eyes run over your fiancé before casting them back down to the floor. "Why'd you do it?" You asked, this time louder.

"I don't—" William started, but you cut him off.

"Don't say that you don't know. I'm begging you to say literally anything else, to have an explanation. We've been together for years, William, since you were drafted. I've been with you through trades and emotions. You asked me to fucking marry you and I said yes because I love you more than anything and I want to spend the rest of my life with you. So, why? Why did you cheat? Why did you ask me to marry you if you didn't mean it? Why?"

William shook his head, stepping forwards towards you, but you took a sharp intake of breath and William stopped in his tracks.

"I meant it," he said quietly. "When I asked you to marry me, I meant every word. I love you more than anything. (Y/N), you are the absolute light of my life. I couldn't have done with without you, I can't do this without you."

"Then why did you cheat?" You asked again, your own voice becoming weak with emotion.

William took a deep breath and sat down on the couch. "I was out with the boys. They were all talking about the different women they had been with and...and you know that you're the only girl...We were still kids when we got together."

William's words resonated with you and you stepped back into the room, moving to sit on the couch opposite to him. William's eyes followed you as you came back. "I was drunk. We were all drunk. One thing led to another and...and I knew that you had kissed other guys and I was drunk and we're getting married and I thought that I should at least know what it was like to kiss another girl..."

You nodded slowly. "And?"

William shook his head and looked back up at you. "And that's it. That's all that happened. I regretted it the moment I did it. She wasn't you. I didn't like it. It felt wrong. She wasn't you."

"What?" You breathed before you could stop yourself.

"She wasn't you." William repeated, pushing himself off the couch and crossing the living room to kneel in front of you.

"I never want to kiss another woman. You're the only woman I want to kiss, touch, love." He whispered, bringing his hands up to cup your cheeks. "I love you so much and I am so, so sorry."

"I forgive you." You whispered to him.

A small smile twitched at his lips and he leaned forwards to rest his forehead against yours.

"Thank you." He breathed.
