Malik

The plane ride to Denver was quick compared to the drive, plus being in first class helped make the time go by.

Cyrus and I were picked up in a limo, which seemed a bit much but I didn't complain. Our driver was human, a dove I assumed. He didn't say much except for telling us how long the drive will be and to help ourselves to refreshments.

After some time, I broke the silence that littered the air between my master and I.

"My liege, I still don't understand why you brought me. Won't the other master warriors be upset by my presence?" Cyrus turned his head and shrugged.

"Doubtful, you are my successor, it is not unreasonable for you to accompany me on things like this. When the master warrior before me declared I would be her successor, she had me follow her around basically everywhere."

Cyrus rubbed his eyes, I noticed he looked better, but only slightly. He still looked tired and he seemed very weak compared to the man I met four decades ago.

"This will be a very educational experience for you Malik, you will meet the other masters and how to speak to them."

"Can you tell me about the other masters? I've only known you my liege and I've only know our coven, what are the others like?" I said, I was surprisingly nervous about meeting them, getting to know as much as I could about each master beforehand would hopefully ease that.

Cyrus pondered for a moment before speaking.

"Well, there's Bellona, shes been the master of the western coven for about fifty years now I believe. She's easily angered, bit uptight, good with a throwing knife, very much into the old ways, you'll see what I mean by that when we get to her coven." Cyrus chuckled as if he were making a joke.

"Alright, what about the other two?"

"There's Thane, Master warrior of the northern coven up in Alaska, big guy, killed the previous master of his coven twenty some years ago, incredible with a battle axe. Last but not least Camilla, she's the only master I actually don't mind being around. She's been in charge of the southern coven for about seventy years now, very fast and fantastic with a chain whip." He rubbed his chin as if reminiscing about something. "I've only been to her coven once, its on a secluded island off the coast of Florida. It's quite beautiful and open surprisingly, all the other covens are so closed off and dark, so medieval."

I noticed Cyrus's lips turn into a small grin as he spoke of master Camilla, and I couldn't help but think he might of had a thing with her at one point in time.

We didn't say much else for the rest of the long ride. It wasn't until almost four in the morning that the driver slowed down and parked. I looked out the window, we had stopped in a large clearing, beyond that, nothing but trees and some snow for miles. I noticed the only reason why the driver stopped was because there was no more road.

He stepped out of the car and came over to the side to let the two of us out. I was a bit confused, I knew the western coven was deep within the mountains, tucked away from human eyes, but surely they wouldn't have us hike there?

I looked at Cyrus who didn't seem to be sharing my feelings. It was then I heard something off in the distance coming closer to us.

"Your helicopter will be here shortly." Our driver said with a bow before entering the limo again and driving off back the way we had came.

I thought the limo seemed much, but a helicopter took the cake.

I guess I shouldn't have been surprised, I knew first hand the journey to the coven on foot was not easy, even for a vampire.

The sounds I had heard before were closer now, the wind around us swirled, making the tall pine trees sway.

Soon enough, a helicopter came into view and began to land some yards away from us.

When it touched the ground, a man and a woman stepped out and walked towards us.

"Master Cyrus, welcome to Colorado, my name is Ofelia and this is Seth, our Master has sent us to bring you to her coven." The woman spoke, bowing in respect. She had lovely red hair and striking crystal blue eyes, the man next to her kind of reminded me of Elijah, blonde hair and dark blue eyes but he wasn't as tall or as built like Elijah.

"Thank you Ofelia, now can we please get a move on? The sun is coming up soon." Cyrus said a little annoyed. I looked at him before we started walking towards the helicopter, his face was pale and his eyes looked tired. The journey seemed to have exhausted him and I couldn't help but worry for my Master.

I wondered, how much longer did he really have?

**********
Devon

A sleeping Emily laid beside me as the sun slowly began to rise. I didn't wake her, she deserved a few extra hours of sleep. I watched as her chest rose and fell in a perfect rhythm, her eyes fluttered lightly as if she were dreaming.

My phone started to buzz in my pocket and I couldn't help the frustrated sigh that left my body.

I stood from the bed and quietly walked out of our room. When I looked down at my phone, I recognized the number immediately and answered.

"Henry, I'm surprised you called." I said.

"Yes well, it's been about two months now, I wanted to see how Emily was doing my lord." Henry responded, his voice seemed nervous for some reason.

"She's doing great actually, better than expected." I heard mumbling over the phone from two people, as if Henry was relaying the message.

"Olivia wants to know if she and Emma can see her?"

"Uh I don't think that's a good idea just yet, I'm sorry but she isn't completely ready to be around humans, you understand, right?" More mumbling sounded over the phone.

"Yes we understand, but what about me? May I come see her?" Henry asked, I pondered for a moment.

"I don't see why not, I'll speak with her when she wakes up and call you again."

"Thank you my lord, I appreciate it." Henry said and hung up.

I leaned against the wall and thought for a moment.

This seemed like a good idea, I know Emily missed her family a lot. Even though she hasn't known Henry very long, he was still her father.

I opened the door and walked back into our room. Slowly I made my way back into bed, wrapping my arms around a sleeping Emily.

I took a deep breath and shut my eyes, feeling a little tired.

I drifted off to sleep, the last thing I felt was Emily's warmth and her breath on my arm.
