The Three L's

I fell down,

You picked me up.

When I scraped my knee,

You told me to count to three.

To remember who I'm with,

And the love and joy they give.

But where are you now,

Now that my heart is broken?

My tears a dam,

That's been opened.

Where are you now,

Now that my feelings are a mess,

Everything we had gone,

In smoke and flames

                                                                             Or so I thought. . .

Oh wait,

How I forget.

I forget that you're the cause,

The cause of all this mess. . .

It's disheartening,

When the one you trust,

Had the knife all along,

Just waiting for you to turn.

There was only one thing,

One thing you helped me with.

The words you gave,

Were my guide, while lost at sea.

I look around,

Where I was.

I wasn't drowning,

I wasn't sinking,

Sinking into the cold depths of the sea.

I realized,

Realized you don't matter,

Not anymore. . .

The love you gave was temporary,

All just meant to be a memory.

The ones who gave me hugs,

Wiped my tears,

Brought me ice cream and chocolate,

Aren't temporary.

They are the only ones who matter.

I won't let one set back,

Make me lose my head.

I'll wipe my tears,

And let go of my fears.

Because of you,

I can say,

I've grown.

You lead me to the three L's,

How they've changed my life.

I've loved

I've lost

I've learned
