My mom, Kai, Alyssa and I have been training hard all week at the boxing gym.
I was surprised to see how well my mom did. She tired pretty quickly since she hadn't done training like this in so long, but when Alyssa began to teach us her techniques she would catch on quickly.
"You're really good at this." I say during one of our breaks.
We were sitting on the bench across from the boxing ring. We both sat slumped against the wall completely covered in sweat. I didn't think training would be this hard considering I'd been working out. I felt completely out of shape and tired.
Alyssa was in the ring with Kai scrimmaging, to my surprise she was whooping his ass.
"Muscle memory I guess." My mom says giving me a small smile.
"So you did this sort of training before..." I trail off. I wasn't sure how to approach this conversation.
She gives me a reassuring nod. "Yes, when I was in Ezekiels pack."
"I'm sorry" I say and focus back on Alyssa pinning Kai once again.
"Don't be. I actually did enjoy training. It was one of the rare times Ezekiel wasn't up my ass. Of course I could only train with the head trainer because he didn't trust another wolf to not flirt with me." She says the last part in a scoff. "But I enjoyed it. It was a good way to let my frustration out."
"I kind of feel the same way when Kai and Tyler train me." I add.
She looks over at me and smiles.
"I'm glad."
We give each other a knowing look, and she leans over and presses a kiss to the side of my head.
"Okay enough laying around you two. Back to work!" Kai says jumping down from the ring.
"Looked to me like you were the one laying around buddy." I say making reference to the many times Alyssa took him down.
"Hey, she's tiny but mighty." He says defensively but with humor in his tone.
"Just like Leanne" Alyssa says appearing beside Kai.
"Are y'all ever going to let that go!" He exclaims.
"Nope!" She says with a wide smile.
"Now lets get back to it!" She says clapping her hands together.

After today's training I wanted nothing more than to lay in my bed and sleep. My muscles were sore, and I felt absolutely drained.
"Hey, what are you doing tomorrow afternoon?" Kai asks as he takes the seat beside me on the bench. I'd just finished up showering and was waiting on my mom to finish cleaning up.
Kai's hair was still dripping with water, and his shirt clung to his body so well I couldn't help but stare at him.
"Sorry what?" I say turning my eyes back to his.
Kai smiles wide and shakes his head. "Just can't keep your eyes off me can you?" He says in a low voice.
"I really can't" I sigh.
"Well, I asked what you were doing tomorrow evening. I want to take you out on a date, it's been a while since we've had an actual date."
I can't help but swoon at his words.
"I'd love to but I'm doing another art lesson with your sisters tomorrow."
Since the last art lesson, the girls have been begging me to come back. With everything going on I've found it hard to make time for actual fun things. When they asked again the other day I couldn't help but say yes.
"Trading me in for my sisters already." Kai says jokingly.
"I can't help it. They're cuter." I say shrugging.
"Yeah whatever" he says playfully rolling his eyes at me.
"Late night adventure then?" He asks with hopeful eyes.
I chuckle at him. "Sure, haven't had one of those in a while."
Kai smiles. "We kind of did last week when you spent the night." He says with a wink.
"Shhhh!" I say when I notice my mom approaching.
"You ready to go mija?"
"Yes. And yes to you too." I say to Kai before placing a kiss to his cheek.
"Great! I love you." He says before kissing my cheek and giving me a hug.
I catch sight of my moms raised eyebrows as he hugs me. Ugh, now I don't want to leave. Leaving means awkward car conversation with my mom.
"I love you too"
After Kai bids a goodbye to my mom he walks off towards Alyssa, and my mom and I head out.
"I loooooove youuuu" my mom drones on as soon as we shut the door to the car.
"Mami!" I whine.
"You two are so cute. When did the I love yous start?" She asks with a wink.
I groan as I start the car and make our way home.
"It's new." I say hoping she drops it.
"So have you mated yet?"
I glance at her from my peripheral vision and I guess it was enough for her to confirm it.
"Don't tell your Abuelita please. I'll never hear the end of it." She chuckles.
"Oh you think I ever will?" I remark.
My mom chuckles and shakes her head.
"I'm happy for you mija. El amor de los compañeros es una cosa hermosa."
I glance at her again, but she's looking out the window. I can hear the sadness in her voice, and I wonder if I should even respond.
"I'm sorry" I say quietly.
She only looks at me and gives me a small smile that doesn't reach her eyes.
The ride home remained silent, and I couldn't help but feel somewhat guilty about what she said.
Mates love is a beautiful thing. I just wish she had gotten to experience it for herself.
