"Don't worry."

Mack quickly grabbed my hand and helped me jump off of the ledge. Of course, I could've done it myself but he insists on help me out on little and big things.

Mack just thinks I'm too young to be doing things alone since I was so young when all this started.

Yeah, so many other kids were younger than me, but he still pushes to help me more. I just don't understand this part of him.

"My reinforcements are dead. We need to make a quick search for survivors and any supplies." The soldier, who I'm guessing is Hammond, ordered us around.

This isn't his little band of soldiers; this sure as hell isn't his group to be leading. I looked over at Warren who nodded her head, telling me to calm down and it was alright.

"You!" He pointed in between Mack and I.

I took a step closer towards the truck while Mack and Addy moved off into the grown up grass so that Murphy could see that Hammond was speaking to him.

"Zip it up and stay close to me."

What's so important about him that he has to stay close to another outsider? What is so important to either one of them that Warren is obeying them?

Warren and Charlie never obey anyone like this.

"Hey, where did all the Zs go?" Murphy asked getting in between my brother and me.

"Movin' on like locust."

"Yeah, but they'll be back." Charlie warned.

Warren, Charlie, Hammond, and the 'important' dude started to look at the cars ahead while Doc, Mack, Addy, and I looked around the site. Something bad must have happened here.

"A horde, maybe?" I asked, staying close to my older brother.

I grabbed onto the back of his favorite red jacket. Before we met some kind of group, we went to our house before heading to Addy's. Mom and dad weren't there, so we thought they went to the closest safe zone.

We must've went to different locations, because they weren't there either. Technically speaking, they could be dead, alive, or be both. I still wonder what happened to them, because, I mean, they were my parents and at the age I was at, I needed them.

Now, I just need Mack, it seems like. A baby. I shot my head to the right of me and watched as Warren and Charlie approached a steaming vehicle. The sound of a baby's cry came from there. I went to take a step closer, but Mack grabbed my wrist.

"It could be a Z or it's parents could be the living undead. Stay close." The 24-year-old demanded my obedience.

Together, we got behind Murphy, who was standing in front of the truck's grill. I snickered as Warren had a 'oh-God' expression displayed while she passed, probably, the last generation onto Charlie, who just laughed at the action.

"Mack." I muttered, pointing my finger towards the building but aimed for through the small hallway-like path the building's structural fall made.

Mack shot his head towards growling Zs. They're going to attract more with that call. The man that still held my wrist nodded towards the doctor and ACC student.

"What are they after?" Addy asked, as we got closer to the Zs that surrounded something.

"There is only one thing." Mack muttered.

Mack stopped walking for only a moment so he could squeeze my wrist. That meant to stay where I'm at. The three of them killed all the Zs that surrounded us. As the undead fell one by one, they started to reveal a girl with dark brown hair that was bent down.

Her face was covered by her dark strands as she sat down with her knees close to her chest. Mack used his famous door-picking abilities to open up the cage. After pushing all the final dead bodies away, he swung the cage open.

Deciding that it was alright, I got in between Doc and Addy as they got on the right side of the containment to watch my brother try to gain the attention of the only known survivor of this damaged base.

"Hey."

Mack stepped into a tiger's cage. We don't know a thing about this girl and we don't  have a clue why she was locked in a cage. She could be a serial killer. There are still those kinds of people in the world.

I know that for sure.

"Hey, I think," This time, Mack physically touched the, I bet, dead woman, "She might be dead."

With no time to waste, the stranger jumped up and pinned my only known living family member with a knife at his throat and the cage behind his back. That whore.

"Whoa. Whoa." Mack quickly dropped his knife to show her that we meant no harm to her.

"Hey, hey, hey, hey." The 24-year-old spoke hastily as she pressed it closer.

Shit. Shit. Shit. I went to move around the front, but Addy grabbed my hand so I'd stay right beside her.

"Well, she ain't dead." Doc laughed, watching her.

I guess she's just scared. If Doc doesn't think she can be dangerous, I guess she couldn't be that bad.

"Hey, it's okay. We're good people." Addy tried her best to reassure the other female.

"We just saved you. Please, don't hurt him." I spoke up next.

The girl's hair swayed behind her as she turned to look at Doc, Addy, and then me. The shortest one out of them all. She glared into my eyes, trying to find something bad about me, but I guess I seemed all good?

I don't know but whatever she was thinking, it was the best outcome of them all.
