Interview Questions:

What inspired you to write this piece?

This song tells a story of a breakup, where the guy left the girl, but she didn't want him to go and she has a bit of a hard time dealing with his absence in her life, but she's able to shake it off and let it go. The story was inspired by my watching of people coming into my life that I'd develop friendships with and then at some point they'd go and I'd never see or talk to them again, be it coworkers or school friends. There was one guy in particular, and he always wore the same cologne, so even after he wasn't around anymore, I could still imagine what his cologne smelled like.

What does music mean to you?

I have always been the quiet girl (I was literally voted the quietest girl by my class in eighth grade). Music is like my way of speaking. It's how I put myself out there and get in the spotlight. It's actually the one way I can do that without getting nervous, just because I love playing and performing live so much.

What do you love about performing?

I love the fact that I can entertain people and make them smile! I love to see an audience clapping along, just as into the music as I am. I love when I see people dancing in front of the stage, from kids to couples to elderly ladies (Yes, it HAS happened!) Little ol' shy me, doing something no one would expect me to able to do, and I'm having a blast doing it. It's the thing about me that I'm most confident in, which is another reason why I love it.

Who/what are your major artistic influences?

I am country music born and raised! The artists of country music and the way country songs are written are influences in my own music and performance. On the other hand, I got big into Ed Sheeran a few years ago. I love his original style and his lyrics - each of his songs seem to have their own individuality and that's a big influence I tried to pull from him.
