browngirl__'s Second Performance

In the Original Music category, as their second entry, browngirl__ performs their original piece "Rose coloured glasses" under their artist name Laurel!

Interview Questions:

What inspired you to write this piece?

Life is full of so much negativity and whenever I sleep I experience a bit of serenity from my dreams of a better life. So this inspired me to write this song about how the girl I become when I fall asleep has such a positive out look on life hence 'rose coloured glasses'. Her positive outlook gives me so much hope that whenever I wake up no matter how bad my day goes at least I was happy for that time.

What does music mean to you?

The beautiful thing about music is that we all understand it differently and it means very different things to us all. It can be very complicated and very simple. It can be very slow and very fast. I love music because it gives me a chance to express myself. I also love how when I don't understand what I'm going through or I can't understand it, music can explain it to me or at least console me. So in short music to me is a way of expressing myself that only I can understand.

What do you love about performing?

I have only performed a handful of times but the few times that I have, I would start off my performance very nervous but I would end my performance feeling very confident. What I really love about performing is the positive response that helps build my confidence.

Who/ what are your major artistic influences?

My music is mostly influenced by artists such as J Cole, Billie Eilish and Bazzi. I really like their music and their music helps me focus and concentrate and gives me ideas for music. Another influence would be landscapes. I love photography and looking at beautiful landscapes helps me calm down and think much better.
