Interview Questions:

What inspired you to write this piece?

I wrote this song to make people aware of themselves, but also to become aware of how "self-absorbed" we've all become. We all have different beliefs, upbringings, and opinions, but it seems that when ideologies clash, that's where hatred begins to brew and we start judging the world in harmful ways simply because they don't see things the same way. This song was my way of making people aware that we can't hate someone for being different. We're all fighting our own wars and we need to learn how to respect the people around us even if we don't agree with them. If we're not loving people, we're damaging them, and we can see that damage clearly in the world we live in today.

What does music mean to you?

Music is the only place I feel truly confident. I struggle with self-doubt quite often. I never feel good enough or talented enough... but when I'm writing music and singing, I feel free. I think that's what makes music special. There's something for everyone. Music is relatable and it helps people feel understood and less alone.

What do you love about performing?

I think people view me as reserved (a little quiet, even), but when I perform, I feel like they're getting to see the real me. The part of me that doesn't have to hide. It's refreshing.

Who/what are your major artistic influences?

That's a hard one because I feel like I've been influenced by all styles of music. As a child, I was obsessed with Shania Twain and Faith Hill. In high school, I loved Lincoln Park, Sum41, Good Charlotte, and anything punk/rock. Today, I prefer softer styles, like Indie folk or indie electronica. There hasn't been one specific artist or genre that's influenced me in particular. I love a little bit of everything. :)
