Gracies POV (7 Years Old)
I sat in the doctors lounge reading my Harry Potter book when Ethan opened the door to the room,
"Hey Gracie, I've finished shift and got a little job to go and do. Fancy coming along? I could really use your hep" he said and I frowned slightly,
"Sure, but I'll have to ask Will first" I told him as I closed my book and put it in my bag,
"I already spoke to him. He said you're good to go" he assured and I smiled excitedly as we both grabbed our coats and left the ED.
"So where're we going?" I asked curiously as I grabbed Ethans hand and we crossed the carpark,
"To a bakery" he said simply,
"Cool" I exclaimed "why?" I asked again making him laugh,
"Because it's Aprils birthday" he explained,
"And we're gonna surprise her?" I asked excitedly and he nodded in confirmation,
"Yay! She's gonna be so happy" I exclaimed and he smirked at my enthusiasm.
"I think we may have gone overboard on the cakes" Ethan observed the five boxes as we sat down at one of the tables whilst we waited for the main cake to be decorated,
"Have you seen Will eat cake?" I asked making him laugh as he handed me my hot chocolate that he had bought for me whilst we wait "I think April is gonna be happy" I smiled and he nodded, mirroring my smile,
"I think so too" he agreed. I looked up when the bell on the door rang, indicating that someone had walked in,
"Jay" I exclaimed as I jumped out of my seat and ran towards my brother who picked me up in surprise,
"What're you doing here?" He asked as he held me on his hip,
"Me and Ethan came to buy cake for April's birthday" I explained and he turned and saw Ethan and they shook hands in that weird way men do,
"Will gave the thumbs up" Ethan assured my brother who nodded with a smile,
"No worries, I trust you" Jay assured as he put me down on the floor,
"He also bought me a hot chocolate" I said happily as I sat back down to take a sip from my drink,
"Aren't you lucky" Jay smiled "I hope you said thank you" he added and I nodded,
"I did" I promised,
"Here" Jay said as he pulled out his wallet and held out some money for Ethan "for Gracies drink" he added but Ethan shook his head,
"No, don't worry about it" he assured my brother who went to argue but Ethan didn't give him a chance "it's my pleasure" he assured once again and my brother caved,
"I appreciate that" Jay smiled just as Hailey walked over to us with two coffee cups in hand and passed one to Jay,
"We should really get going" she said to my brother who nodded,
"I've gotta get back to work" Jay said and I stood up to give him a hug "be good and I'll see you at home" he said and I nodded,
"Ok, love you" I said as he kissed the top of my head,
"Love you too" he replied and I sat back down "I expect cake when I get home" he joked making me giggle "I trust you to make sure Will doesn't get to it first" he added before leaving.
Ethan and I sat at the table and finished our drinks until the lady came over with the cake all decorated and ready to take back to the ED. We thanked the people in the bakery before going back to Ethans car and driving back to Med.
"Ok, I'm gonna come in with you first and asses the situation, then you can distract her" Ethan explained and I nodded,
"Will" I exclaimed as I ran over to his and gave him a hug,
"Hello to you too" he joked as he returned the hug "have you been good?" He asked and I nodded; he looked up to Ethan for confirmation,
"She's been great" He confirmed,
"We saw Jay at the bakery" I told him "he was getting coffee" I added,
"Well it sounds like you've had a riveting trip" he said and I nodded in agreement, not noticing the sarcasm in his voice.
"There's April" I said as I spotted her over by the nurses station,
"Ready to distract her?" Ethan asked me and I nodded "then let's do this" he said making Will laugh. I walked over to April whilst Ethan headed back out to his car to retrieve the baked goods.
"Hey April" I greeted sweetly and she smiled back at me,
"Hey sweetie pie" she greeted,
"Can you come with me to get a cookie from the cafeteria?" I asked with pleading eyes "Will's busy and I'm not allowed to go on my own" I lied,
"Oh, we're a little bus-" Maggie immediately cut her off knowing what I was trying to do,
"I'm sure we can cope for five minutes" Maggie assured April who shrugged,
"Then I guess we're going to get you a cookie" she smiled and I grabbed her hand, looking back at Maggie who gave me a wink.
"I can't believe they ran out of cookies" I exclaimed as we walked back in to the ED,
"I know! We really need to get that sorted" she agreed as we opened the door to the doctors lounge,
"Surprise" I chorus of voices called out making April jump slightly,
"What the" she exclaimed as she put a hand over her heart in shock,
"Happy birthday" I said sweetly before walking further in to the room and pulling her over to the table where the treats where all displayed,
"Did you really want a cookie missy?" She questioned in a fake stern voice making me giggle and shake my head,
"No" I admitted and she ruffled my hair slightly,
"Thank you everyone" she said gratefully.
Most people had to get back out to the ED but a few people, my brother included, stayed and had some cake,
"I'd say that was a job well done, huh Gracie?" Ethan asked before eating a forkful of cake,
"I think so" I agreed before doing the same.
Later that day Will and I went home with a small box full of leftover cake (much to Jays delight) and Jay even let me had a second piece when Will was in the shower!
