Clove's POV

**********************

15 August 3113 (17th day in arena)

Cato comes out of the cave, shaking his head. Meaning, 'No there not there'. I sigh. "Sorry, just thought they were in there" I apologize.

"Hey, hey its ok Clo, we'll find 'um, promise, then we'll get the hell outta here" I smile at him, while fixing my hair.

"Just wanna get out of this stinking place, it does things to your head." I laugh. Cato nods agreeing with me. ''Speaking of heads, how's the dent?''

I roll my eyes at him. ''It's fine Cato, I'm fine." He gives me a sceptical look. I cross my arms. "I'm fine, look at me! Up and about! The dent is nothing, nothing permanent eh? No dammage, nothing. I'm fine." I complain to him.

"Yeah, but you'll have a dent at the side of your head for, God knows how long Clo!" Cato frowns. I shrug.

''So? It can be a memory, a battle scar-whatever you'd like to call it." I explain, reaching up and giving him a quick kiss on the cheek. He smiles sadly at me.

''C'mon let's head to the shelter" Cato tells me, taking my hand. ''How is your hand?" I ask, scared of an answer.

''Sore, not as bad as yesterday, it's alright, I guess." I roll my eyes, not believing that for one second.

We walk along the banks of the river -or now the muddy trench. I fiddle with a knife in my hand, twisting it around and -wait a sixty seconds. Back up. Mud? Mud? It's Mud. It's Mud. Oh

My God! It's Mud! Mud! Mud!

''Ok Clo, we have confirmed it's mud. Relax" Cato laughs. I said that aloud. I still smile.

"It's mud Cato!" I yelp with excitment. ''Really?" Cato asks sarcastically.

I slap his arm. "Mud is dirt with -?" I ask. "Ugh water, duh!"

''Exactly" I say leaving him to add together the pieces. He frowns.

"Mud is dirt and water. I know. Clo, where are you going with this?"

I sigh. ''God you are stupid. Where there's mud, there's water. As water is needed to make mud" I reply in monotone. He slaps his forehead with the palm of his hand.

''I knew that'' he says laughing. ''C'mon Clo!" Cato says, tugging my arm. I laugh at him.

We both bolt down the slope, next to the river. It gets more muddy as we go further. I grin widely, not even noticing that I still have a jagged knife in my hand.

I feel my throat starting to close in. I'm suddenly can't sallow. Granted, I did have a drink up by that cave, but it there was only a few drops left in our bottles.

Little beads of sweat trickle down my forehead. My whole body feels limp, exhausted, ready to collapse. The whole world spins.

******************

"THERE IT IS!!!!!" Cato yells, pointing to a river, gushing water. I can't remove my pack quick enough. I fling it on the ground, along with my jacket, then dive in.

The water is absolutly freezing. My teeth start chatering. ''You coming in, or what?" I yell at Cato. He laughs, then jumps in.

He pops up, shaking his hair like a dog. I scold him. "why did we jump in, in our clothes?" He shrugs. ''It'll keep us cool later, I guess'' he laughs.
