Is it time?

A pair of red eyes lit a dark storage room. The head of Azmeck's robot slowly turned--it looked to the left, looked to the right, and twisted its head around. As far as its eyes could see were more machines. They were all the same--mass manufactured, Vecto thought. I'm getting the impression I don't fit in.

He was inside a robot--inside what appeared to be a spaceship. He had spent three days in confinement, yet he was conscious the entire time. The anger he once had eventually faded in the last three days, and he had heard all of what Crysilis and Azmeck had to say. He knew why Streamline had to stop him.

The dimensional field Crysilis had used on him had given him time to reflect. But the time rift only affected his shields. When his orb's self-sustaining Force Field Shields died from the lack of carbon, the barrier died as well. And now he was free to roam--albeit in a lousy machine.

The robot's head twitched under the control of Vecto. Its arm rose in the air as Vecto looked over the poor workmanship. Morphaal and Sable were still on the loose. He still had to find them; he still had to locate Zendora; but he certainly wouldn't fight in this body, he thought.

Vecto commanded the machine to walk. The old robot budged, swiveled its arms in the air and slapped a nearby robot, but it couldn't move its legs. It appeared they were manually disabled.

"Apologies," Vecto said to the robot he'd hit, noticing it was unmoving and staring straight. It was almost familiar to him.

There is only one way to fix this problem, Vecto thought. He brought the robot's hand out, pointed its fingers at its chest, and thrust them into it. Metal grinded as wires spewed from the machine, sparking light throughout the dark room. Vecto yanked with both arms, pulling at the chest to free the orb inside. At last, he could breathe. He was free from the carbonless coating inside of the machine that kept his shield abstained.

Vecto hovered out of the robot and floated in the air. The orb sparked, and his Force Field Shields returned. A small, thin layer fluctuated over the orb, feeding off the air. It would take an hour to fully regain the shields that way. He needed a better carbon source, and fortunately for him, there was an abundant source of it all around him.

"Mind if I borrow a few of you guys?" Vecto asked the machines filling the vast storage room, and then sucked the carbon from their metal bodies.

(Now that Vecto is free from his constraints, how will he find Zendora? Where does he plan to go next? Find out more in the next installment of Vecto: Voyage!)
