The path was steep and after about ten minutes we were both breathless. Fortunately, this stopped all talking that could've have potentially occurred. Unfortunately, this also reminded me how unfit I actually was.

After another ten minutes, we both stopped, exhausted.

"God, I would have thought I was more fit." Jack muttered.

"I know. But on our side, it is a freaking steep hike." I gasped in between breaths before I gulped down some water.

"You shouldn't make excuses for your unhealthy lifestyle. Maybe we should get that Insanity work out thing. Do a little brother-sister bonding. We need that right now."

   "Need what?"

"To talk. What's been up with us lately? Everything has been so awkward lately."

   "I know."

He sighed and rubbed his hand over his sweaty face. "Why, Hayley? I feel like something's not right here."

It was my turn to sigh. How can I tell my brother that I was going out with his worst enemy? How was one to do that? I didn't know.

We had both sat down on a tree stump, our backs hunched over.

"I've been talking to Conner." I said.

"Conner Newman?" He sounded oddly calm.

   "Yeah, Conner Newman." I confirmed.

He just nodded and looked away. "I know."

"I'm really sorry. I just- wait, what?" I asked.

"I know. I know you're also going out with him. I was just waiting for you to confess." He said, finally looking at me.

I was at a loss for words. He knew. HE KNEW? How did he know? Why hadn't he said anything? Why hadn't a fight between him and Conner broken out?

"How?" I finally voiced my question.

"You're not the only one who likes aquariums."

   "Oh."

  "Yeah."

"So you know. Wow. That's weird."

  He just nodded.
