Matt hated surprises. He hated surprise parties, he hated unexpected phone calls, he hated the change of the weather, he hated last minute plans changing and most of all, he hated unexpected visitors. After moving in with you, he experienced it all. And today, a surprise showed up at the door.

You had a class presentation today, so when Matt woke up you were gone. As Matt made his breakfast, the doorbell rang. He knew it wasn't you because when you forgot your keys, you stood outside and called his name.

Matt rolled his eyes and left his breakfast on the counter to go see who it was.

"It is you!"

Before Matt could react, the brunette stranger pulled him into a hug. Shocked and confused, Matt gently pushed her away.

"Do I know you?"

"You don't remember me, Matty?"

There was only one person who called him by that nickname and now he was looking at her face, he couldn't believe she was here.

"Nicole!" Matt almost tackled his childhood friend to the floor.

"What are you doing here? How did you find me?"  Matt didn't realise how big his smile was.

"I got here two days ago. I visited your Mom and she gave me your address"

Nicole broke the hug and took a step back to admire him.

"You look great"

Nicole put her hands on her hips and squinted at him. "Really? I think my boobs got smaller"

Matt cleared his throat and turned away. He was in a relationship now and it was uncomfortable to be in this situation.

"Boobs scare you?" Nicole gasped. "Are you gay?"

"No!"

"It's okay if you are"

"What? No!" He shook his head and laughed. "I've a girlfriend.."

"I don't believe you"

"She lives here with me"

Nicole crossed her arms in front of her chest.

"Why are you staring at me like that?"

"I think I've got the wrong address!" Nicole jokes and turned to walk away, but Matt grabbed her wrist and spun her around.

"You haven't changed much" He said and she smiled.

"Is that good or bad?"

"Good. But you should've called first"

"Where's the fun in that?" She asked, looking happier than ever. "I know how much you hate surprises"

"Y/N, it's me, Grace"

For a second, you felt like passing out. You thought it was a prank and someone was pretending to be Grace. But you couldn't lie and say you didn't recognise the voice at the other end of the phone. You grew up hearing that voice.

"Are you there?"

You could hang up. You could pretend you never picked up the phone call, but deep down that wasn't what you wanted.

That was how you ended up meeting you sister near your campus. When I saw Grace, you thought this was a bad idea, because when someone leaves and comes back, they're not the same person.

You used to be so close. You shared a bedroom and Grace read you a bedtime story every night. When Grace got her first boyfriend, you grew apart and when Grace left, she never said goodbye.
