Roomie (Matt Sturniolo)

Matt was sick. You had no idea how because he seemed fine the night before, but this morning, when you reached out to him, his skin was burning up.

He couldn't get out of bed so you made him a breakfast and cooled down his temperature with a damp cloth before going to the store.

You grabbed milk, mumbling the calculation of the prices for everything in your basket. Suddenly, you heard a voice calling your name from the end of the aisle. It was Matt's friends, Nate and Lilly, a weird place to run into them.

"What are you guys doing here?"

"What else could you do in a store?" Lilly said, rolling her eyes.

"Sorry, it's weird to see you both here, together"

Lilly glanced at Nate and let out a sigh. "We're here to get some snacks for the party later, Matt's coming as well"

"He's sick unfortunately. I'm not sure if he'll be there"

"How is he?" Nate asked and you smiled at him.

"He's better, he still can't get out of bed though"

"Poor guy" he mumbled, then told you should hurry back to Matt.

"I'll see you guys another time" you waved them goodbye and went to walk away, when Lilly stopped you.

"Wait"

"What, Lilly?" You turned around, ready for the snide remark from her.

She shrugged and crossed her arms over her chest. "I rarely talk to you so I may as well say it now"

"If you're going to make fun of my clothes, can't you do it behind my back? I really have to go" you rolled your eyes and checked the time on your phone.

"No, I'm not that mean"

"Yes you are"

"So, we and some other friends are going to New York after finals, you can come if you want"

You were shocked when you heard her offer. Her inviting you on a trip was a massive deal.

"You want me to come along?" You asked and Lilly rolled her eyes.

"Because Matt-"

"Because of Matt!" Nate cut Lilly short. "Because you're Matt's girlfriend"

"And you'll be lonely so"

"Lilly!"

"What?" She looked at Nate, unsure why he was acting this way. You began to notice something was up.

"Why would I be lonely?"

Before Nate could come up with something, Lilly already let the secret out. "Isn't Matt going to Asia in a few weeks?"

"Lilly, no" Nate face palmed himself and you stared at them both in shock.

Lilly turned to Nate and whispered, "He hasn't told her yet?"

"No! I was going to tell you not to tell her" Nate groaned and turned back to you, as you still stared. You hoped they were kidding, but the look on their faces said otherwise. It was the truth.

"Why...why is he going there?"

Nate knew it wasn't cool to break a promise with his best friend, but after Lilly spilled the secret, he couldn't not tell you.

"He got an internship" Nate sighed. "He wanted to tell you, but he hasn't gotten a chance. Please don't be mad at him"

"You're kidding, right?" You let out a nervous laugh, waiting for them to start laughing. "If you are, it's not funny"
