We're so close to the end of this book! Two chapters left!

"Wanna do something bad?"

"Right here?"

You glared at Matt and threw your pillow at him. "No! I'm going to meet Lilly's parents this morning" you said, sitting beside Matt on the couch. "The wedding is tonight. I have to make sure they'll be there"

"Wouldn't Lilly be mad if she found out we went behind her back?"

"Yeah" you gave him a half shrug. "Lilly is too proud to admit that she wants them there. I know she says she hates them but I know she really doesn't, otherwise it wouldn't bother her so much that they weren't coming"

Matt threw his head back and sighed. "Should we tell Nate?"

"I already did" you smiled. "He gave me the addresses"

"Wait..we're going straight to their houses?"

"Yeah?" You said, raising your eyebrow. "What? You thought I was going to call them and ask them for lunch?"

"Yes?"

"No. They would make excuses and say no like they did when their daughter invited them to her wedding. We're going straight to their houses"

"I haven't even said I'd do it"

"You're doing it" you stood up and pulled him by the arm. "We're in this together. For better or worse, remember?"

"This isn't what I meant when I said that!" Matt whined, but you already put your jacket on and grabbed the car key.

"Either you go with me or you can't talk to the bump tonight"

"You're a monster" he gasped, making you laugh.

"That's marriage, babe"

Lilly's mother lived half an hour away from her so you couldn't understand why she never visited her daughter. You weren't a mother yet, but you knew when your kid grew up and went to college, you wouldn't mind visiting them once in a while. Maybe not all mothers were the same.

You'd never seen a picture of her Mom, and all you knew about her was the depressing information about her family. Her name was Karen. She used to have a drinking problem, and now she was living alone. She was sober when you answered the door, but it was easy to spot the empty bottles and packs of beer under the table.

"Who the hell are you?" Karen asked. She had fair skin, brown hair and eyes like Lilly's.

"I'm Y/N, and this is my husband Matt. We're both friends of your daughter" you said cheerfully, smiling. But Matt gave her a frown.

"My daughter?"

"Yes" you nodded. "She's getting married today and-"

"Why aren't you at the wedding?" Karen cut you off, gripping the door handle. You were waiting for her to slam the door in your face, but thankfully, she didn't.

"It's tonight. Uh..I just came to make sure you were coming because-"

"Did she ask you to?" Once again, she didn't let you finish. It was hard to tell how you really felt about this, or if she felt anything at all. She crossed her arms and leaned against the door. You didn't think it was rude, because why would she invite two strangers into her home?

"Did she ask you to come?"

"No, m'am" you said

Shaking her head, Karen laughed. "Right, and I suppose you came all the way here because you felt bad for me?"
