When you first moved into the apartment, you wished everyday he wouldn't be home so you'd have the place to yourself. But time went by and you grew used to having him around.

You didn't have to eat dinner alone when you had a bad day and you would have someone to complain to, he shared the chores and took care of you when you were sick. He was still your best friend.

Now you were standing with his friends at the airport, watching them say goodbye.

Nate stepped in next and shared a hug with his best friend. Matt thought out of his friend group, he was going to miss Nate the most.

"Look after her for me?" Matt whispered, so only Nate could hear. Nate didn't hesitate to tell Matt he can always count on him.

"How about we give them some space?" Nate suggested, pulling away from Matt. Everyone else agreed and you got closer to Matt, who was smiling at you.

"Hey" he mumbled

"God, I'm gonna miss you" you said, cupping his face.

You stared at each other in silence, trying to remember as much of each other as you can, before he gets on that plane.

"I wish you could come with me" he said, pulling you into his chest. "Now I don't want to go"

"You are going! I didn't buy you a new blanket to keep you warm, for you to back out" you rolled your eyes and leaned in for a kiss.

When you pulled away, you rested your forehead on his. "I have something for you" he whispered.

Matt pulled away and let go of your hand. He took off one of his rings and slid it on your ring finger.

"I was going to give you this at your brothers wedding but I forgot to" he let out a nervous laugh. "I got this when I was seventeen and never took it off because it brings me good luck"

"Why are you giving it to me?" You furrowed your eyebrows, but Matt stopped you from taking it off.

"Keep it" he told you. "It's my promise to you"

"I know you'll be back. You don't have to promise me anything"

"Not just me coming back, but-" he took a deep breath and let it out. "But a promise of a future together"

"Matt-"

"I know it doesn't seem right to be saying this when I'm going to fly miles away from you" his voice nearly broke and so does your heart.

"But you mean so much to me. So I want you to keep this ring as a promise that I will come back, and it will be just you and me again. Hopefully in the future, I can replace that ring with a better one"

You were at a loss for words. Before you could say anything, Nate told Matt he had to go or he'd miss his flight.

"I'll call you when I land" he said, quickly kissing your head. "I love you" he mumbled, before picking up his bag to go.

"I love you too.." you said to yourself, watching him rush away.

When he reached the terminal doors, you hopped  he wouldn't turn around to look at you. You wouldn't be able to handle it, but Matt always knew how to push your buttons. He reached the doors, turned around and smiled at you.

And that was all it took for you to burst into tears.

"Do you think this makes me look fat?" Lily asked, looking in the mirror at her figure.

You tilted your head, looking at her. "No. You look alright"

"Alright means average!" Lilly said and tossed the dress away. You said sorry to the shop attendant for her actions, then followed her.
