My smile drops the second I enter second period just to see Tori gone from her usual seat. To be quite honest, the only thing that motivates me to go to school is seeing my best friend and also the fact that I have to graduate so I don't end up living inside a cardboard box with a drawn on sun after graduation.

"Good morning Shiloh!" My english teacher Mr. Jules greets me with a warm nod.

"Good morning!" I softly responded, hoping he heard me as I made my way towards my seat next to Tori's.

Tori and I sat all the way back in class. Obviously to talk shit about anything and laugh about whatever but mostly because we both excelled quite well in English.

I looked through my phone and blasted Tori with text messages wondering where she was as I glanced back up at the board.

Mr. Jules slowly backed away in satisfaction at what he had drawn. I couldn't help but squint to examine his finished work as the class began to fill up with the other students. It was a well shaded wheel of colors that created gradients with each other. The colors almost hugged and cohesively interlocked instead of overpowering one another, creating one gorgeous circle of illuminated hues.

My eyes were constantly looking at it and at the door to see if Tori would eventually show up. "Mr. Jules!" And she did. "Nice drawing, showing support for my gay ass?" She teased, winking at him.

Mr. Jules fixed his glasses as he visibly tried to contain his laughter. "Well, not quite. Although I have no issue with showing my support for your gay ass-" The entire class proceeded to laugh as Tori waved at people and made her way towards the seat next to me. "this color wheel is actually meant for our next unit which starts today."

"Hey!" Tori quietly greeted, momentarily gritting her teeth to check if Mr. Jules heard her, which he did but just waved it off as usual.

"Where were you!" I smiled, watching her plop down beside me. "You weren't answering your phone."

"My parents took it." She rolled her eyes as she fluffed her hair, getting herself comfortable. "Apparently it was morally wrong for me to take their car yesterday which is complete bullshit. My brother does it all the time, the only difference is i'm a pothead and he's a varsity kiss ass."

"That is so not fair." I quietly reacted to her as the class continued to fill up. "Aren't you the one with a license now? He only has a permit, technically he can't even drive anywhere without adult supervision."

"Well he technically can because apparently even law is forgotten when you're the favorite child. My parents won't ever say it but they obviously love and trust him much more than me." She took out a pencil from her bag and placed into her mouth as she looked through her backpack. "Like-sohrwy I'm nut a basic shallowe betche who think's thur better than everybody elshe." With her hand finally finding her notebook, she quickly takes the pencil off her mouth.

I just remained quiet and gently kept my gaze on her. I couldn't help but feel bad because I know how much that dynamic between her and her brother truly bothered her soul. She was right about him. Her brother was the ultimate straight jock that reveled in popularity and patronization here in Halyciane High School.

"So class, since we're finally moving onto another unit I will no longer extend the deadline for your final unit papers." Mr. Jules started as the school bell rang, signaling the start of this period. "I've extended it twice already so if you haven't turned it in please do."

All conversations faded into silence as we all gave him our undivided attention. "So now, in this unit we're going to be talking about colors, gradients, hues, and how all of this affects the human psyche." Mr. Jules quickly snapped his finger and pointed at Tori. "When you think of red how does it make you feel."
