"Good morning!" I heard as the lights switched on. I quickly pulled the blanket over my eyes, doing my best to avoid being blinded. When they finally adjusted, I peeked out to see the same nurse from last night, pushing Sam's bed back over to his side of the room while he remained asleep.

"He can sleep through anything, huh?" She asked, giggling to herself. I smiled, nodding back at her.
"I guess so." I said softly, rubbing my eyes.
"So, how are you feeling today?" She asked, coming over to me.
"Alright, I guess." I said, pushing myself to sit up.
"Well, that's good considering the day you had." She said, a little too cheerfully for my taste. But I nodded, smiling back up at her.

"So.. how are you two related?" She asked, smirking back at me as she pushed over a cart with my breakfast. I peeked up at her, feeling my cheeks burn. She nodded, placing the tray onto my lap.
"Yeah.. I didn't think so." She said, now pushing the cart over towards Sam's bed.
"It was his idea." I said, holding in my smile
"I also figured that. But don't worry, your secret is safe with me. He's sweet." I nodded, taking a sip of my juice.

"He is.." I said softly. She held her stare on me for a moment.
"But.. you had someone else here for you yesterday." I nodded, feeling my cheeks burn. She nodded back, giving me a gentle smile.
"I won't pry." She finally said.
"Thank you." I whispered.

Soon enough, there was another knock at the door. When I looked over, I saw Jake making his way in, bouquet of flowers in hand. I couldn't help but smile, my cheeks burning red.
"Good morning." He said, leaning down, gently kissing me on the lips. He then held out the flowers for me, flashing an excited smile. He was so cute.

"Daises are my favorite." I said, taking them from him. He nodded, sitting down close to me on the edge of the bed.
"How are you feeling?" He asked. I could see his eyes jumping from bruise to bruise that covered both of my arms.
"I'm okay." I shrugged, giving him a subtle smile. "Just tired, I guess."
"Well, whenever you want me to leave you can just kick me out." He giggled. He moved in closer, gently pushing the hair out of my face, tucking it behind my ear. I couldn't help but smile, leaning in, kissing him again.
"You're so cute." I said softly. He flashed me a wide grin, his cheeks burning red. I then saw him peek over at my tray of food.

"Are you hungry?" I asked. He bit down on his lip, peeking back at me.
"Yeah.. I kinda.. rushed over here as soon as I could." He said softly, scrunching up his face.
"Well, I have to eat this." I laughed. "But the cafe downstairs is open if you wanted to run down there." His smile grew as he nodded, pushing himself up off the bed.
"Do you want anything else while I'm down there?" He asked, stopping in the doorway. I shook my head.
"I'm okay." He nodded, flashing me another smile before making his way out.

Then I heard Sam groan, turning over in his bed, finally opening his eyes. He sat up, stretching his arms above his head, looking around.
"Hey.." He said, giving me a tired smile.
"Well, aren't you a heavy sleeper." He smirked back at me, his cheeks burning.
"What makes you say that? Wait.. how did I get all the way back over here?" He asked.
"That's what I mean." I laughed.

He ran his hands through his hair, looking around again.
"Hey, so.. before Jake gets back.." I said. He turned to me, confused.
"Jake's here?" He asked. I nodded, biting down on my lip.
"Yeah, um.. I think we should talk about yesterday." He stared back at me, his eyes getting wide.
"Oh.. y-yeah. Okay." He said, turning to face me. "W-what about it?"

"I'm sorry that I.. did that. I.. I don't know what came over me, I was just.. I.. I really thought you were.. and I.. I don't know, I was overwhelmed and terrified and then so relieved and.. I just don't want that to ruin our friendship. I know we probably both said and did things we didn't mean, right? It.. it was a lot."

He held his stare on me, his face dropping, nodding.
"Y-yeah.. I.. um.. i-it's okay. Y-yeah.. we.. we were both just.. caught up in the moment.. it's okay." He said softly, looking down.
"Okay good." I sighed, giving him a subtle smile. "Because.. your friendship means so much to me. I don't want to do anything to ruin it. I really care about you, and I love what we have. With everything.. else that's been going on I just.. I'm so happy to have someone like you. I just.. I got caught up in everything." He nodded, keeping his eyes down.
"I understand. Y-yeah.. m-me too."

"Okay.." I said softly. "So we're okay, right? It's.. it's not weird?" He bit down on his lip, shaking his head.
"Nope, not weird." He said plainly.
"Okay good." I said, giving him a subtle smile. "Because.. I.. I mean, we haven't really told anyone but.. Jake and I are back together and-"
"Yeah, I figured." He said sharply. I felt my stomach drop.
"O-oh.." I said quietly, my cheeks burning. "Okay."

He stayed quiet for a moment, keeping his eyes down.

"So I just.. I think that.. what happened.. we should keep that between us. I don't think it's worth.. hurting anyone's feelings." He peeked over at me.
"You mean.. Jake's feelings." He said. My heart started beating faster. I nodded.
"Right." He sighed.

"I just want to finally get it right." I said softly, looking away.
"Well.. I hope that you do, Jess." I heard him say, getting up from his bed, and going into the bathroom. I sighed, leaning back against my pillows. Despite what he said, I knew things were never going to be the same. They never are, not when something like that happens.

Thankfully, it didn't take long for Jake to get back. He made his way in, flashing me a smile, his eyes shooting over to Sam's bed.
"I guess he's finally up." He said, sitting back down on the edge of my bed. I nodded, keeping my eyes down.
"You okay?" He asked, placing another bottle of juice on the table next to my bed. "I got you some more, I know you'll want it eventually."
"Thank you." I said, sitting back up, moving in closer to him.

"Anddd..." He said, his voice trailing off. I stared back at him, confused as he reached into his pocket. "So, I know how upset you were over it, but I saw this in the gift shop downstairs. Now, it's not what you had but.. I thought it would be a nice placeholder for the time being."

He finally leaned in, wrapping his arms around my neck. When he backed away, I looked down to see a tiny pink heart-shaped crystal hanging from a gold chain. I stared back up at him wide-eyed.
"You found one.." I whispered, gently holding in within my fingertips. He smirked back at me, nodding.
"Again, I promise, I'll get you a nicer one but.. I figured-" I leaned in, wrapping my arms around him, kissing him on the lips. I felt him move in closer, kissing me back, gently placing his hand on my leg.

I then quickly backed away when I heard the bathroom door open. Sam shot us a look, and then made his way back over to his bed, where he plopped down, turning over to face the other wall.

"Hey, how you feeling?" Jake called out.
"Fine." Sam snapped. I felt my heart drop.

I could tell that it wasn't fine after all.
