After the Show

As Jake made his way off stage, he pulled me into a passionate kiss, gently running his fingers through my hair. I couldn't help but smile, staring back up at him.
"I'll never get tired of that." I sighed. He smirked back, pulling me in again, quickly kissing my cheek before going over and placing his guitar down on the rack.
"Me either." He giggled. "So, how was I?" I shrugged.
"I don't know, you were okay, I guess." I said. He stared back at me wide-eyed, his lips curling into a smile.

"Just okay?" He laughed. I shook my head, wrapping my arms around his neck, pulling him back into another kiss.
"Fine.. you were amazing." I sighed. His smile grew as he leaned his forehead against mine.
"And I'll never get tired of that."  He said softly, now taking my hand in his, intertwining our fingers as he lead me through the wings towards the dressing rooms.

I followed closely, leaning my head on his shoulder, unable to wipe the smile from my lips. I clutched him tightly, never wanting to let go. This was the longest I had ever been so genuinely happy, and I was terrified that any minute now, it was going to be ripped right out from underneath me.

And then as we turned into the first room, my stomach dropped when I saw Sam sitting on the couch with a girl I had never seen before. His head instantly shot up, looking over at me. As did hers. Her eyes quickly lit up as she flashed me a wide grin.
"Jess!" She squealed. My cheeks burned as I quickly peeked up at Jake, and then back at Sam who nodded, forcing a subtle smile.
"H-hi.." I managed. "Sorry, um.. do I know you?" She shook her head, her cheeks burning red, but holding her smile as she quickly got up, making her way over to me.
"Jess, this is.. um.. uh-" Sam started.

"I'm Sadie!" She said cheerily, holding her hand out. "I'm The Envy's new photographer." My face dropped. She worked for them? The last thing I wanted was to be associated with anyone who had anything to do with Charlotte.
"Oh.." I said simply, shaking her hand. "Nice to meet you."
"I'm a huge fan of yours." She gushed. "Your work is.. beautiful. You're actually the reason I got into this, so I hope one day I can be as good as you. I don't know, maybe working with you could help me! I'd love to learn from you, if you have anything you could teach me, I'd love to know." I bit down on my lip, nodding, holding in my smile as I could see Sam cringing behind her. I peeked over at him, smirking. He rolled his eyes, smiling back, trying to hide his beet red face.

"Um.. yeah, maybe. We'll see." I said nonchalantly. "But.. thank you, that really means a lot. Did.. did they send you over here?" I asked. She quickly shook her head, her smile growing.
"Oh, no. Sam and I met before the show and he invited me and.. we've just been talking. Tonight is my first night. I'm really excited to see what life is like on the road." I nodded, peeking back over at Sam.
"Yeah, well.. it can be fun." I laughed. She then looked over at Jake.

"And you must be Jake. I was able to catch a little bit of your set. You're great."  She said, holding her hand out to him now. His smile grew as he reached out, gently shaking her hand.
"Thank you, nice to meet you." He said simply. She nodded.
"I'm excited to get to know everyone."

"Yeah, well.. we don't want to intrude on you guys." I said, pulling Jake towards the door. I could see Sam's face dropping as he held his stare on me.
"Yeah, don't wanna bother the newly weds." Sam mumbled. My cheeks burned. Sadie's eyes shot back over to Jake and I, quickly looking down at my hand.

"OH! Are you two engaged? How exciting! Congratulations!" I couldn't help but smile, nodding.
"Y-yeah. Thank you. But.. we're kinda keeping it a secret with just.. family right now." I said, shooting a look over at Sam. He bit down on his lip, looking away.
"Oh, yeah, sure no problem. Your secret is safe with me, don't worry!" I nodded.
"Thank you. Maybe we'll see you around." I said, gently pulling Jake out the door, bringing him into the dressing room across the hall.

I could hear him giggling to himself before I could even shut the door. I shook my head, my smile growing as he made his was over to the couch, plopping down.
"I think you have a fan." He laughed, propping his feet up on the table. I rolled my eyes, going over, sitting down next to him.
"Oh, shut up." I laughed. He wrapped his arm around me, pulling me closer.
"I don't know.." He said, shrugging. "Feels kinda cool being on the other side of it. Is this how you feel all the time with me?" I shook my head, playfully shoving him.
"She.. she seems.. sweet, I guess." I managed.
"A little too bubbly for Sam's taste though." He said. "I wonder what's going on there."

I felt my cheeks burn.
"I'm sure it's nothing." I muttered, avoiding his eyes. "This is just what he does, right?" Jake bit down on his lip, holding his stare on me. I felt my heart start to beat faster as his face started to drop.

"You okay?" He finally asked. I nodded, feeling my face get hot.
"Yeah.." I sighed, leaning my head on his shoulder, reaching out for his hand.
"What's going on.." He said softly, gently placing his hand on my knee. I felt a smile escape my lips.

"It's nothing, it's just.." He leaned in, gently kissing my forehead. I sighed, my smile growing. "It's just.. are we going to become the boring couple now?" He shook his head, giggling to himself.
"What makes you think that?" He asked, now gently running his fingers through my hair, keeping his eyes locked on mine. I held my stare on him for a moment, getting lost in his eyes again.

"I don't know.. we're engaged, and soon we're gonna be that couple where.. all they talk about is their wedding, and then, once that's over, what comes next?" His smile grew as he leaned in, gently kissing my lips.
"Well, you know what comes next." He giggled, flashing me a wide grin. I bit down on my lip, holding in my smile.
"Exactly.. and.. I feel like people especially don't want to hear about that." He sighed, pulling me closer.

"Jess, I hate to break it to you but.. this isn't boring, this is just what finally being happy feels like. And.. if that makes us boring then.. I love being boring. I can't wait to be boring for the rest of my life with you." He said softly, pulling me into another long kiss. I felt my heart jump as I reached up, tangling my fingers in his hair, kissing him back harder. He hesitated for a moment before taking my hand, pulling me out of the dressing room and quickly leading me down the hall.

"Where are we going?" I laughed, trying to keep up. He peeked back at me, his smile growing as he lead me out behind the venue, pushing open the backdoor where we were met with an open parking lot, now completely drenched as the rain came pouring down, splashing into the puddles that surrounded us.
"Jake.." I questioned, before he pulled me out from under the overhang, his laughter loudly echoing across the pavement.
"Jake!" I yelled again as he pulled me closer, running his hands through his hair to get it out of his face.

I was instantly brought back to the night him and I jumped into the water out behind one of the venues. I couldn't wait for a lifetime of nights like that with him.

"Jess, we are never gonna be boring, okay? I promise. We're going to have an exciting wedding, and have exciting kids and live an exciting life together. I'm going to make sure you remember why you picked me every single day of your life." He giggled. I was already soaked from the rain, wrapping my arms around him for balance.

"And.. if.. if you ever feel like.. maybe.. I don't know, you changed your mind-"  I cut him off, quickly pulling him into a passionate kiss. I felt him sigh as his hands slowly made their way up my body, gently caressing my face as he pulled me in, kissing me back harder.

"Jake, I've made a lot of stupid decisions over the years but.. picking you.. was the best decision I have ever made." I sighed. His smile grew into a wide grin, now beaming from ear to ear as he pulled me back into another kiss, quickly leading me back onto the bus.
