You say you are wise;
Are you sure those aren't lies
You feed yourself every day
All because you can't face the truth?

Let's be honest,
For we all have delusions
Stemming from arrogance
That causes us to think our opinions
Are the best.

How can we know the truth
Without questioning everything
We came to believe, especially
Beliefs we acquired growing up?

We're flooded with information;
Some may agree with our beliefs
And the ones that contradict
Our own provides no relief
To our minds, causing us to go
Violent when that's not the solution.

You think you are wise
For holding on to your beliefs,
But what's wisdom without evidence
To support any of your statements?
Doesn't that make you unwise?

You call open-mindedness
The very definition of gullibility
For accepting every information,
But there's a difference
Between being gullible and being open.

If you care to listen,
Allow me to educate you,
To clear away any misconceptions
About these two terms.

To have an open-mind
Is not about dumbness,
But about intelligence
Because while the person
Holds onto their beliefs,
They are willing to accept
The possibility they are wrong.

That's how one achieves wisdom;
Learning the truth
Comes through questioning,
And by doing so, you can finally
Call yourself a wise folk.
