I woke from my slumber at the touch on  a hand tapping my shoulder. Marie stood across from me leaning down as she stood and I slept on the sofa. I groaned at the sharp discomfort in my neck and back as I sat upright . I noticed the cups holding hot drinks that she held and offered to me

"Tea or coffee" Marie asked, her voice at least went back to normal from the rough broken voice she held last night.
I stretched and answered her.

"Here" she said, handing me the tea and shuffling to sit next to me.

We sat in silence for a while. I felt awkward Having her in the room and realised that I'd confessed to her brother with her being there, I sipped my tea and winced when it burnt my tongue .

Marie have a small laugh suddenly casing me to look at her "remember when I first met you..."

I watched her as she reminisced "I told you that I believed that if I meet someone more that once, it meant we'll be seeing eachother for a long time"

I nodded at the vague memory. She seemed younger then, more carefree.

"And now" she laughed causing me to smile. I looked down at my cup and then at dalton who was still under the anaesthetic.

"How long till he opens his eyes?" I whispered.

Marie looked at me for a long time. Her expression  was defeated.

"Elizabeth...don't rely on the thoughts telling you that he'll wake up  anytime soon,'you'll only be disappointed"

"Why?"

"it's been...it has been nearly a month  and a half since his surgery"

I whipped my head towards her "what! Why didn't you call me then?"

Why didn't Mason mention anything?

Oh maybe because you told him not to talk about Dalton anymore?

She sighed "I didn't think you were important. But it's been too long since he woke up. And when he's awake, he's in so much pain that they have to put him back under"

I watched him, dazed that he went through so much in the short time that I was basking in my emotional freedom. I was selfish.

I sat back in the seat and looked down at my lap.

If he hadn't woken up in a month, why would he now?

I sighed and looked at my bag that was just at his side, the ringing of my phone broke our silence. I couldn't help by just stare.

Marie had to open my bag and hand it to me, and even then I didn't notice her.

"Hey aren't you going to answer it?" She poked my arm with the phone and once she got my attention she handed it to me. Once I snapped out of it I pressed the accept button only to hat shouting from the other line of my phone.

"Mum calm down" I mumbled

She screamed at me even more about how reckless I'm being at such a grown age...I only she knew

"Ma, its Saturday" I reminded her

"Exactly the reason why you should be at home helping with the wedding!" She mumbled

I felt guilty for not being more attentive to their wedding preparations. But part of me was sick of labels and even the idea of marriage. At least I'd thought so until now.

"I'm so sorry ma, but I..."
Marie walked towards a door in the room

"I'm going to take a shower" she whispered
