I go into his kitchen, grab what I needed, and started making the food. When the food was ready, I made our plates. Freeman came into the kitchen, and I gave him his plate.

"You ain't have to do all this, " he said.

"I know, but I wanted to thank you."

"You already did though, " he said.

"That wasn't enough."

"Thank you for the food, " he said and sat at the table.

"No problem."

I waited till he ate a bite.

"Hold on cuz this wife material right here. Where you learn to cook like this?" He asked.

I laughed at his reaction.

"My mom and grandma."

"They need to teach me or something, " he said which made me laugh more.

"Shit you laughing, I'm serious, " he said, "This taste good as he'll."

I smiled. "Thank you."

We ate, talked, and I washed the dishes. My momma raised me right.

"So...can I get your number?" He asked.

"Sure," I said.

He gave me his phone, and I put my number in.

"Okay, I'll take you home now," he said.

"Okay, but I'll give you directions to my best friend's house instead."

"If my momma- no, if my dad finds out, he will go crazy."

"So going to your friend's house is your cover-up?" He asked.

"Yep."

We go in his car, and I give him directions. I told him "thank you". Then, I went into the house.

Present...

I got a call that took me out of my thoughts. I answered it without looking to see who it was.

"Hello?"

"You really used the backup phone I gave you a while ago, " he said.

"Freeman, don't tell Rashawn, okay?"

"I know, I know. So...where you at?" He asked.

"Nice try, I refuse to tell you."

"Fine. Maybe I'll go ahead and tell-," he said.

"I'm in Chicago, damn."

"See, it wasn't that hard, was it?" He said.

"It was the hardest thing ever."

"Whatever, " he said.
