Chapter 5: The Forbidden Wall.

Alexandra made her way towards the forbidden wall through the thick woods, Blake hot on her tail, pushing the branches aside, a torch in hand to light up the dark path, the scrunching of leaves under their footfalls and the chirping of crickets being the only sounds around them, with the exception of occasional distanced howls of the dogs every now and then.

Ever since she moved to Arcane Forest four years ago, although it's a small town and almost everyone knows what goes around the town everyday, yet it is the most mysterious place she has ever known.

Being the observant and curious one it was almost instinctive of her to solve all the mysteries that she found lurking in the deep dark woods and the secrecy behind the cryptic gazes of the townies, all telling a tale of their own.

Hence the rebellion against the rules of the council.

The Forest was divided with a thick wall as a border between the both sides and the townies weren't allowed to pass the boundary, except for the authorised one's and vice versa.

On her first day, when she had went out on a troll and bumped into Blake, She had wanted to go on the other side, for it was more beautiful than the other one, one look at the tall trees and the peak of the cliff, no doubt with the lake or maybe a waterfall at the bottom, had her captivated, curious and excited to explore more of this mysterious place.

But soon that excitement turned into unsated curiosity when Blake told her the whole story about the division and that it was forbidden to pass the border without authority.

Thus the name.

That had only spiked up her curiosity, She had done some research on the background and the reason behind the division, even questioned a few old people around town who had been living here since ages.

Everyone had a different story to tell, but there was one reason, however, none of them were sure if it was true or not, but they believed there were night crawlers out there and the division was the result of a few brutal attacks that happened in the early days, although no one was sure what beings they were or if there were any or not and that only encouraged her to continue the research.

"Why do you have to be such a curious bıtch?!". Blake whined for the thousandth time.

Nothing new.

She ignored him as usual and focused on the dark path watching her steps.

"You know, we would've been in bed right now with junk food and you could have satiated the detective in you by watching Robert Downey Jr, if only you didn't plan another failed attempt at crossing the border". Blake rambled on, making her want to duct tape his mouth.

"Could you shut the fųck up for a second and you don't know if we'll fail this time too". Alexandra snapped, throwing a murderous glare over her shoulder towards him.

"Oh honey, this is what the fiftieth attempt?". He shot back mockingly.

"Càllate". She said angrily, giving him another one of her glares, that seemed to do the trick and they walked the rest of the way silently.

Once they reached the wall they made their way towards the small iron gate at the right corner-- the only way to cross the border without having to climb the wall-- not like they haven't tried that before.

Alexandra pushed the rusty old gate open looking out for any patrolling guards, although there is still an hour before there shift starts, She walked through the opened gate and finally stepped foot on the forbidden land.
