Chapter 9

Grace’s POV

Harry came to school the next day but I could tell he was avoiding me. I didn’t know what to do anymore so I didn’t attempt to talk to him. At lunch, he sat at the other end from where Liam, Sammy, and I were. He sat with Calum and another guy I didn’t recognize. He looked over at me about half way through lunch. We made eye contact for a split second before he looked away.

I pushed the food around on my tray, not daring to eat it. I didn’t even know what half of the food was that our school tried to pass as ‘healthy nutritious meals’. Right. I would just eat something when I got to the restaurant after school. I dreaded training whoever the guy was that my mom hired yesterday. My parents were out of town so that meant Austin and I had to run the restaurant by ourselves. It’s harder than you would think and adding a new employee to the mix would just be an added distraction. The place was always packed on Friday nights because it is pizza night we make the best pizzas in town. Liam had been disappointed when I told him this morning that I had to work but he agreed to come pick me up at the restaurant when I got off at eight. I was just happy that my brother didn’t have to work at GameStop and would be able to help me tonight

“I could help you tonight.” Sammy offered, staring at Calum from across the lunchroom.

“Nah, it’s okay Sam.”

“Good because I have a date tonight.”

“What?” I asked, surprised. “Did Calum ask you out Sammy?”

“Not yet but he will.”

I laughed at her and Liam rolled his eyes, giving me the daily crossword puzzle in the paper. It was our tradition to fill them out together even though we usually only got half way through before the bell would ring. Come to think of it, Liam and I had a lot of traditions.

“I’m so excited about our date.” Liam said in a low voice even though Sam was too busy swooning over Cal to hear us.

I glanced over at Harry and then back to Liam’s golden brown eyes.

“Me too.” I said, nodding.

I tried not to stiffen when Liam wrapped an arm around me. He even carried my books for me when the bell rang. Not that he would care, but for some reason I hoped Harry couldn’t see us.

“Thanks Liam.” I told him, standing outside of my last period class.

Luckily, I had early dismissal today and could get straight to the restaurant before my parents left for my dad’s meeting. I was happy that my mom was going with him. Sometimes I felt like they almost never spent any real time together. They are always working.

“It was my pleasure. So about tonight…”

“What about it? Did you change your mind?” I asked quickly.

“No! Of course I didn’t. I just wanted to…show you something.”
