damaged boys were the best kind of boys

The train slowed to an abrupt stop, as Kat and Foxfire continued their conversation. Kat had finally begun to feel better after Foxfire sat and talked with her the remainder of the ride. The two realized shortly after the train had stopped, that they were nearly alone and everyone had already gotten off. So they scrambled up their things and climbed off. "Fox!" A voice shouted from behind them and they turned to see Harry and Luna approaching. "Hey." He said, as he grew closer, now looking toward Kat. "I want to apologize. I know not all people who had parents like that are bad. So, I'm sorry." He finally said to her. She looked pissed at first, before scrunching up his hair and letting out a smile.

"You're fine, Potter." She laughed, before stepping back slightly. "Bloody hell, what happened to your nose?" She asked before laughing a little more. "Get it. Because his nose is bloody." He smirked and shrugged it off.

"Finally! Where have you four been?" A voice shouted as the group of them looked toward the gates to see Professor Flitwick waiting on them. As they all gave their names for the list, Luna pointed out Draco and Snape arguing with Filch. And Draco, shortly after, noticed them.

"Nice face, Potter." Draco commented looking toward them, with a smug smirk.

"Did he-?" Foxfire pointed between the two, finally realizing the connection.

"Nice suit, asshole." Kat spoke up, shouting back at him. It was meant to be an insult, but they all knew it really was a nice suit in which he had on. "Looks like he's dressed for a funeral." She mocked, trying to hurt his feelings, but it seemed at the time, no one really could hurt Draco Malfoy's feelings. Foxfire and Kat continued to walk forward, as Luna and Harry stayed behind so she could fix his broken nose. Eventually the two caught up to the girls and they all made their way to the great hall.

Harry walked to the Gryffindor table, giving them a quick wave, as they continued on to the Hufflepuff table. Taking their seats, Foxfire couldn't help but stare over at Draco, seemingly very depressed and unhappy to be there. "The meaner you are, the more miserable you'll be." She stated to Kat. Beside him, sat a familiar face who she wasn't too thrilled to see either. Theo Nott, the ex boyfriend. Not only did him and Pansy seem to have broken up over the summer, but he also couldn't seem to take his eyes off Foxfire, as she looked away quickly to Dumbledore at the podium.

"First off, let me introduce to you, the newest member of our staff. Horace Slughorn." Dumbledore interrupted. Professor Slughorn stood from his seat, with a quick wave. "He will be head of potions class, meanwhile defense against the dark arts will be taken over by Snape." He continued to announce as the students clapped. "As you all know, each of you were searched on your arrival here tonight. And you have a right to know why. Once there was a young man, who sat in this very hall, who seemed just as a student. His name, Tom Riddle." The great hall filled with an eery silence thats was so deafening, it almost hurt. You could feel the tension build between the students as facial expressions shifted into worry, and fear.

"Man, I guess we're getting into the deep shit tonight." Kat muttered to Foxfire with an awkward look on her face. And Foxfire agreed. This subject was hardly talked about, and if it were, you made sure to whisper. This whole conversation became uncomfortable very fast, as everyone knew that Tom Riddle, was Voldemort.

"Now off to bed." Dumbledore said as he finished his speech. Kat and Fox looked toward one another, worriedly, as they stood from their seats. Foxfire couldn't help but notice Draco quickly rush out of the hall before anyone else. And now, her curiosity had been peaked. Kat followed her gaze and realized quickly enough what was going on.

"No!" She shouted at her, slapping her shoulder. "Look, I know Draco's all seeming depressed and I also know how much you love to fix damaged people." She protested.

"That's why I picked you as a friend." Foxfire joked with a smile as the two made their way past the kitchen to the Hufflepuff corridors.

"I'm serious, Fox! Do not try and be his friend. Don't try and fix him. He is not worth it and to be frank, he's a total prat!" She shouted at her again, in a hushed tone. "And knowing your romanticized ass, you'll fall in love because lord knows you have such a soft spot for bad boys, but he is not the one you should be focusing on." Kat insisted, pleading with her best friend to not begin something that will only cause more problems than it's worth.

"Oh, please, Kat. I'm only observing. He's usually more energetic with his insults and he just seems so, glum. I'm just curious, that's all." She continued as the girls walked to the front door of the Hufflepuff common room. Kat reached forward and tapped the barrel, two from the bottom in the middle of the second row, in the rhythm of Helga Hufflepuff. You see, the other houses all required passwords to their common rooms, but not Hufflepuff. Hufflepuff you needed knowledge and precision. It was unique, as were the students who were housed within it.

"Mhm, sure you are." Kat rolled her eyes, pushing the door open as the two walked in, past the fireplace and up the staircase to their room. Luckily, the girls were always roomed together, which is how they first met, and ever since then, became the closest of friends. Foxfire sat on the bed as Kat held up Cleo in her hands. "I missed this fat little lap cactus." She exclaimed, setting the hedgehog down, to let it explore. Foxfire leaned onto the bed, and stared up toward the ceiling. Here goes another year at Hogwarts.
