another day, another party

"How do I look?" Foxfire asked, turning around to show Kat. Kat had just finished up throwing her suit coat on, when she looked to see Foxfire. Butterflies filled her stomach as she stared at Foxfire in her long black silk dress that clung to her figure perfectly. Kat could feel the redness in her cheeks turn hot, and couldn't help but feel mesmerized.

"You look amazing." She said, nervously.

"So do you!" Foxfire exclaimed, with a wide smile. "Let's get this party started." She winked as Kat walked over to her, extending her arm, as Foxfire looped her arm through hers.

"After you, m'lady." Kat opened the door and led her down the stairs. A few Hufflepuff boys catcalled them as they walked through the common room, causing the two girls to laugh a little. They walked past the kitchens and down the hall. They reached Harry and Luna and began to walk with them when down a side corridor, near the party, Foxfire noticed a figure at the end of the hall.

"Hey, guys, I'll be right back." She told the three as they nodded and continued to talk to one another. She walked down the hall, with only the sound of her heels hitting the ground and approached Draco, who was dressed in an all black suit and tie, looking like he belonged to the event, but also matching her perfectly. "Hey." She said to him, a little sad that he wasn't here as her date, but also confused as to why he was even here in the first place.

"You look," he stopped himself, continuing to stare at her, unsure of her feelings toward him now, since he knew he hurt her by not being her date tonight. "Beautiful." He finally let the word roll off his tongue. Foxfire became quiet, not understanding why he would show up here, if he didn't want to be with her. It made no sense to in her mind, and neither did his compliment.

"What is this Draco?" She finally asked, dropping her hands to her side. "What are we? I know you don't want to be seen with me, you've made that abundantly clear, but I don't understand why you even bother talking to me then." She said, nervously, looking toward her feet, and then back up to him.

"It's not that, Foxfire." He tried to explain without giving up too much of his life to her. He wanted to be with her. She was all he could think about the past few months, and he wanted her to know the truth of what was happening behind closed doors, but he couldn't rope her into that. He couldn't risk her life over his selfish desires.

"Then what is it, Draco? Because I need an honest answer. And if you can't give me that, then I'm done here." She shrugged, feeling defeated. There was no answer so she took that as one anyways. Before she could walk away, as her back turned from him, she felt a tight grasp on her arm, as she was spun into his arms, with him pressing his lips gently against hers. For a moment, she let herself fall into him, craving him more.

Finally, the two had kissed. It was a magical few moments, considering they had so much tension built up, leading to this. But then she snapped back to reality, pushing him away. "What the hell, Draco?" She shook her head, pulling further away from him. "I can't do this." She muttered, feeling a little bit of her heart ache, but deep down, she wanted him, even if it all seemed to come out of nowhere. She stared at him once more and with a shake of her head, she turned around and headed back to her friends. With Draco watching her walk away.

"You ready to go in?" Kat asked her while Harry and Luna waited. Foxfire looked back once more, to see Draco staring over at her, hidden within the shadows, and then she turned back to her friends.

"Yeah," Foxfire stated simply. "Let's go." She tried to forget what had just happened. All it did was confuse her more, and she was already confused enough.

"Hey, guys." A voice broke her from her thoughts and she looked to see Hermione standing with Cormac a few feet behind. Foxfire and Kat couldn't help but laugh. "Stop it!" She pleaded in a miserable whisper.

"If I had known you were this desperate, I would have just brought you myself." Foxfire laughed some more with Kat.

"Drink?" Neville asked as Kat grabbed two. Hermione quickly hurried off behind some curtains with Harry following. Foxfire noticed this escape, and began trying to keep Cormac distracted.

"So, uh, quidditch, huh?" She asked, awkwardly, as the only thing the two had in common was the sport. He looked at her funny and walked off, following where Hermione had gone. "Shit." She muttered as Kat downed the second drink, Foxfire staring over at her.

"What?" She asked. "It's good shit." She shrugged. "Hey, Longbottom!" She shouted across the room to Neville, before approaching him and grabbing yet another. Foxfire scanned the room, noticing everyone standing about and talking. She had to just keep Draco from her mind at this point, because he wasn't worth it anymore. Her feelings for him were obviously more intense than his for her, and she was tired of it.

"Take your hands off me, you filthy squib!" A recognizable voice shouted, as Foxfire and Kat turned their attention to Filch dragging in Draco. Nevermind to that idea of keeping thoughts of him at bay.

"Professor Slughorn, sir," Filch began as everyone gathered around staring at Draco. Draco glanced over at Foxfire quickly, and looked away with embarrassment. "I just discovered this boy lurking in a corridor. He claims to have been invited to your party."

"Okay, okay, I was gate-crashing." Draco lied. Foxfire stiffened up, wondering what he was doing there, and if he wanted to come so bad, why he didn't just join her in the first place, causing her to become even more angry with him.

"I'll escort Mister Malfoy out." Snape stepped forward from the crowd as Draco shrugged Filch off his arm. The two walked away, Draco giving Foxfire one last look before disappearing into the hall.

"Okay, okay. Everyone back to the party!" Professor Slughorn announced as the chattering commenced.

"What the hell was that about?" Kat asked, taking yet another drink. At least someone was having fun, Foxfire thought to herself.

"I have no idea." Foxfire responded, looking back at the curtains they had left from, once more.
