days had past and toby hadn't talked to (Y/n), he had nothing to say to her. she was all alone and getting depressed every day that passed, she was getting to the point of self-harming to get rid of her guilt. though she couldn't bring herself to it, she had made a promise to never do it again. not after her mother cried as she lied in the hospital bed begging for her to be safe.

" Are you ready?" toby asked with a soft voice

" for what?" she asked as she looked at him

"I'm bringing you home," he said

she looked down, she had nothing there no one waiting for her. everyone was dead or were dead beats and wanted nothing to do with her.

" I'm not ready," she said as she looked at the floor

" it'll be fine, you'll find someone that'll love you. you'll make friends and have a family," he said as he pulled her up.

"I-" she was interrupted

" it'll be fine, I'll walk you home," he said as he pulled her out of the house and into the forest.

she nodded she had no choice at this point, he didn't even want her anymore. she felt tears fill in her eyes but she wiped them away, no need to be pitied. they walked closer to the road that would lead them to civilization, towards a new beginning.

" I'm sorry I got you in this mess," he said

" it's ok, you been threw a lot in your life," she said

" How would you know," he asked

" my mother was friends with yours," she said

Toby nodded, he wondered how his mother was doing. she was a widow and childless, it must have been horrible what she went threw. he shook his head and looked at her, and smiled

" so how was she," he asked

" she is doing fine, she turned your and Lyra's room into a shrine," she said with a small smiled

Toby smiled, at least she found a good coping mechanism.

" I'm really sorry about your mom and friend," he said

"I know you are, and I know you did it in the best intentions," she said

he nodded and looked at her, how did she suddenly change and know so much.

" how do you know that," he asked

" my mother and I talked about it, how you only did those things to stop pain and suffering," she said

he nodded and looked ahead, he knew now why the master wanted her. he did say she was special, she saw safer with her own kind. she could have a life of her own and a life away from a killer.
