Genevieve couldn't help but study Remus as he slept in the hospital bed, oblivious to her presence. The way his messy, brown curls  glided so easily through her fingers. The almost small scar that ran along his cupid's bow she hadn't noticed until now. How every now and then he would scrunch up his freckled nose or the corner of his lips would turn upwards.

He was wrapped in bandages and bruises littered his arms, but she managed to look past that and smile at how peaceful he looked.

Remus's eyes slowly opened and once he saw Genevieve stroking his hair soothingly a look of confusion painted its way across his face.

"What are you doing here?" Remus asked, his voice coming out raspy due to the sleepiness.

"I thought I would check up on you," she answered while twisting one of his curls around her finger.

"I'm fine, just a few scratches from going near the Whomping Willow," he lied and attempted to smile but it looked more like a grimace because his face hurt when it moved.

"The Whomping Willow?" Genevieve repeated slowly, raising one of her eyebrows.

Remus hummed in response.

Gen looked him in the eyes and gave him a tight-lipped smile. "I know, Rem."

Remus's whole body tensed up and a lump started forming in his throat. His thoughts ran wild with all the meanings behinds those two words. Two words that could mean so little but so much. Two words that always struck him to the core no matter the occasion. I know.

Genevieve frowned at how the boy had stiffened and brought the hand that was playing with his hair back into her lap. He was quite disappointed she did that, it did seem to sooth him.

After a minute of recovering, Remus shrugged nonchalantly and turned away from the girl. "Know what?"

Gen sighed and cupped the boys face, bringing it back towards her. Both of her hands were soft on his face, making him lean into them more and peer up at her weakly.

"You don't need me to tell you," she whispered, offering a small understanding smile.

With those words, Remus pulled himself away from Gen's grasp as if her touch was burning his skin.
His shoulders slumped and he looked down, biting his already chapped lips to stop his sadness from showing.

"Why didn't you tell me?" Genevieve asked, her voice barely higher than a whisper.

Remus's face turned bitter in a matter of seconds. "And you would tell me?" Remus asked mockingly. "If you was a Werewolf," Remus spat the word out with such venomous distaste that Genevieve couldn't help but hold her breath, "You would tell me, would you?"
