So there I sat in the imfermery bed having a coughing fit, each time a raspy choking cough excaped it scratched at my sore throat. All I wanted was for this to end, I just wished that I could wake up and be perfectly fine. But I had been in this damned room for maybe six days, and I was wondering how long pnemonia lasts.
I was turned on my side and a hand fell upon my freezing shoulder, I looked up from the pillow to see Soap calmly staring down at me, "How you feeling?"
"Like shit," I replied just before a new round of coughs pelted my throat. He lightly ran his hand on my back. "This is like the flu all over again but ten times worse!"
The medic then came up to Soap and asked, "May I see you outside for a moment?" My Captain looked at me and nodded then was led out the door. I just sat there and wondered what they could be saying, with my little energy I had I got off the bed and stumbled to the doorway to listen in. I could hear the medic's tone drop dead serious as he said, "Captain, I hate to give up on her or anything, but I don't think she will last that much longer. There was no improvement, just her health slipping away."
"You have to do what you can," Soap then told him irritated, but there was alarm.
"I know you're close to her and all, but I've been doing everything I could do. Just nothing was helping her." The medic explained with no emotion in his voice.
"You still have to try," Soap protested. "You'd think that people with medical training would know what they're doing."
"I have total understanding of what I'm doing, sir." The medic said flatly. "But I think it would be best to consiter the facts, and do what would be best for her phyically, and emotionally. I've been picking up a lot of pressure and disturbence with her brain activity, something must have happened."
"Her childhood," Soap muttered to himself so low that I could barely hear it.
"What," The medic asked. "Anyways, I think we should let this one go."
"I refuse to let you give up on her," Soap barked. Then I could hear the door knob start to turn and I jumped back into the bed and pulled the covers over myself. The medic stepped in without a word and Soap glared angrily at him. His look fell on me and it softened he walked in and then told me with worry in his words, "Don't give up on me. Alright?"
"Don't think I can kill off that easily," I told him with a weak smile. He sighed and left without another word and I just watched him.

Meanwhile (Soap)
I kicked out of the medical office and shuffled to the bunk hall, then flopped on my bed. Just staring at the bed above me. "Sir, are you alright?" I sat up somewhat stared because I could have sworn I was alone, but I saw Ghost sitting on a bed a few rows down. He had crossed his legs in something like a meditive position and wasn't wearing his mask or sunglasses. I've seen his bare face before, just the fact that I was more use to the skull mask and the burning orange sunglasses covering it. His metalic blue eyes just stared at me, I knew he was aware that I was stressed out with Scarab being sick and everything.
"Nothing," I grumbled as I plopped back down.
"Don't lie Captain," Ghost told me wisely. "I can tell you're worked up over something." For some reason Ghost could read body language very well, which only made it hard to say anything but the truth. "What is it?"
"The medic is thinking of giving up on Scarab," I sighed seathing with anger. Ghost just stared at me in shock and was about to ask for more details when I continued, "Apparently she hasn't improved at all, and he just wants to 'end her misery"
"Did you talk to her," Ghost asked. "Does she sound in any emotional or any pain at all?"
"Yah I talked to her," I answered. "And no she just feels sick and nothing else. But the medic is saying something is wrong with her head and everything, why not he say that when I twist his backwards."
I was about to stand up and return to the medical hall just to beat the shit out of the medic when Ghost stopped me. "I know you're upset about Scarab getting sick," He told me. "But torturing the medic and yourself isn't gonna help her. Scarab is a strong woman, I'm sure she can pull through."
"Alright," I sighed. Again I started to leave, except this time I was just gonna go to play some rugby. I just needed time to think, and running around helped me with that.
I rushed out the door and hurried to the feild where so guys were already picking teams. I got in and had a good long game. When it was over I got dinner then went to get some sleep. That next morning first thing I needed to do was get some breakfast and the check in on Scarab.

Meanwhile
I flickered my eyes open, and I expected to be hacking my lungs up and having a coughing fit, but there was nothing. There was no pounding headache, or chest pains, or anything. But I half expected to start wheezing and sufficating, but there wasn't even a sore throat, I felt totally fine. The medic was just coming in and noticed the lack of me choking on air, he turned to me and asked, "How you feeling Scarab?"
"Actually a lot better," I replied hiding the smile that dared to spred on my face.
"Alright," The medic said as he pulled out the thermoniter. "I'm just gonna take your temp to be sure." He put the devise under my tounge and waited a moment before retreiving it. He stared at the thing wide eyed then at me, "Say's you've returned to a healthy temp of ninty-six point eight, but how could you just get better so quickly in one night?"
"I guess luck," I smiled and he let me go. So I got dressed and left the medical hall and into the fresh air and warming sun light. As the calm feeling came upon me I felt so perfect, like nothing could end this moment. I just stood there feeling the sun absorb into my skin, and the gentle breeze sweep across my pale face.
