I don't know why, but at the moment I have a thing for putting my characters through hell, so... enjoy a tragic backstory as a subtext!

In which Charlie organises a blind date for Michael and Lucifer.

"I don't have my present with me, 'cause well it'd be impossible," Charlie started, making Michael fear the worst. "For your birthday, I give you... a date!"

"What? Charlie, I'm perfectly fine alone, I don't need a boyfriend."

"I don't care what you think, you're gonna meet him. And it's gonna be a blind date."

Michael scoffed. "I don't want a boyfriend Charles, why can't you just understand that?"

"Too late, he's coming tonight. Better think of somewhere to go!"

Michael groaned and rolled his eyes. "This is the worst birthday present I've ever had. No, wait, hold that thought. I've had worst. Much, much worst."

"Like what?"

Michael glared at Charlie. "You know exactly what," he growled.

"Right. Sorry."

"Hey nerd, your future boyfriend's here!"

In his room, Michael groaned and got up. He really didn't want to do this.

When he walked down the stairs though, he almost stopped dead on his tracks. That guy was really cute. Still, he went next to Charlie, waiting for her to tell him his name.

"Michael, this is Lucifer. Lucifer, this is Michael. Have fun!"

Michael looked awkwardly at Lucifer, who seemed just as awkward. "Well, let's go," Michael said as he walked out of the house, Lucifer on his heels, making things possibly even more awkward. Thankfully, some of it went away when Lucifer saw Michael's car.

"You have an Impala '69? Wow!" Lucifer exclaimed, impressed.

"Yeah, my uncle gave it to me. Alright, hop in. I have an idea where I want to go, luckily the sun sets soon so it'll be alright," Michael said, reluctance visible in his voice.

Siting in the car, Lucifer couldn't help but wonder. "I thought you were the one who told Charlie you wanted a date, why so you sound so unhappy about this?"

"That's totally Charlie. No, I explicitly told her I didn't want a date."

"Oh." Then the car was filled with an awkward silence. "You like Doctor Who?" Lucifer asked seeing Michael's shirt, partly because he didn't like the silence and partly because even if Michael didn't cooperate Lucifer still wanted to know the guy.

"Yeah, ten's my favorite and I had a crush on Jack. You?"

"Same," Lucifer said with a chuckle. "Though eleven is also quite nice. But who doesn't have a crush on Captain Jack Harkness?"

"No one, straight or gay, is able to not have a crush on Jack," Michael replied, and the rest of the ride was filled with a pleasant conversation.

The sun was setting when they arrived at their destination. It was a clearance out of town, far enough so that the stars would be bright. Near it was a river, the water crystal clear, shining under the light of the moon.

"Wow," Lucifer said. "How'd you find that spot?"

Michael climbed on the hood, prompting Lucifer to do the same. "I come here almost every week," he replied, avoiding the question. He didn't want to tell a man he met thirty minutes ago that he found this while running away after a beating worst than usual, when his dad found out he was gay.

"It's awesome. Really, how did you find it?"

Michael sighed, and though he was reluctant to lie he didn't want to talk to his problems with a guy he just met. "I don't remember, I just did, I think."

"Okay. Well, I wished I had a spot like that too. Somewhere I could go whenever I wanted to calm down or just relax."

"I- I won't mind if you want to come back here," Michael shyly said, rubbing the back of his neck. "Company's nice sometimes."

Lucifer nodded. He liked the way this was going, what with Michael seemingly forgetting he didn't agree to this at first and acting like it was a date he planned himself. "Sure will."

"Random question, did you ever go stargazing?" Michael said out of the blue, trying to cut the awkward that had settled between them.

"No, this is my first time. Though I have to admit, it's really nice."

"Yeah." Another silence settled between them, though this one was definitely less awkward than the last one.

"It's nice here, thanks for taking me here," Lucifer said after a moment. "Is this your idea of a first date? Or did you just had no idea so you took us here?"

In the darkness, Michael blushed slightly. Did Lucifer just implied there was gonna be more dates? "Uh, yeah- no- well- kinda the two."

Lucifer chuckled at Michael's uneasiness. "Well, I won't say it enough, it's awesome. Make a mental note to thanks Charlie when this is over."

"You think it'll be over after this?" Michael asked, not knowing if it was because he wanted to keep seeing Lucifer or because he didn't want this to be a one-night thing. Well, it's the same thing anyways.

"I don't know, you didn't seem to like the idea of having this date, so I assumed-"

"Maybe I changed my mind," Michael said with a smile.
