The Benders

Saige's POV

I sat in the corner of the cage I was locked in, knees pulled to my chest. Sam held onto the bars at the top of his cage, ramming his feet into the door to try and break it open.

This is not how my night was supposed to go.

Sam drops back to the floor, breathing heavily.

The man in the other cage groans, sitting up.

"You're alive?" Sam asked. "Hey, you okay?"

"Does it look like I'm doing okay?" The man--who I assume is Jenkins--asked Sam sarcastically.

"Where are we?" Sam asked.

"I don't know. Country, I think. Smells like the country."

"A farm of some sorts or a ranch." I suggested.

"You're Alvin Jenkins, aren't you?" Sam asked.

"Yeah."

Sam scoffed. "Well, me and her were looking for you."

"Oh, yeah?"

"Yeah."

"Well, no offence but this is a piss poor rescue."

"Well, we weren't planning on also being kidnapped." I say. I was definitely not planning on this. I had much more fun plans.

"My brother is out there right now looking for us." Sam added.

"Well, he's not gonna find us. We're in the middle of nowhere, waiting for them to do God knows what to us." Jenkins says.

"What are they? Have you seen them?" Sam asked.

"What are you talking about?"

"Whatever grabbed us, what did they look like?"

"See for yourself." Jenkins says as a noise echoed through the barn.

The door opened and two hooded figures walked in the building. They moved toward Jenkins cage, hitting the metal with a bat. The door unlocked and swung open.

"Leave me alone! Don't touch me! Leave me alone!" Jenkins yelled.

One of the figures placed something in the cage before shutting the door and letting the lock click.

"I'll be damned." Sam muttered as the two men walked back toward the door.

"Sam, I think--I think they're human." I breathed.

"They're just people." Sam agreed.

"Yeah, what'd you expect?" Jenkins asked.

"Uh, I'm not sure you want the answer to that." I laughed a little.

"How often do they feed you?" Sam asked.

"Once a day." Jenkins answered. "They use that thing over there to open the cage." He pointed to the box on the wall where they had taken a key from.

"That's the only time you see them?" Sam asked.

"So far. But I'm waiting."

"Waiting for what?"

"Ned Beatty time, man."

"I think that's the least of your worries right now." Sam tells him.

"Oh, yeah?"

"Yeah." Sam replied, reaching through the cage and grabbing at something above him.

"What do you think they want then?"
