"I'm here to stop you, Feline," Degree shouted while bright orange flames appeared from her gloved palms, lighting the darkened corridor. With your (E/c) eyes wide open, you could only watch in horror as both females seemed to be just a split of a second away from ripping each other's throat out. "Justice will prevail. I won't let you harm (Y/n)!"

"Harm her?" Feline raised her claws, her body slighty leaning forward. With a little hiss, she started to laugh. "No, I wouldn't dare to hurt her, would I?"

"Don't kid yourself, villain," Degree retorted with a blank expression on her face. Without another second to waste, she sent a large burst of flames towards the cat-like villainess. Feline was barely able to roll to the side, the flames still catching onto her black tail and gnawing away at it. She howled in pain, cradling her slightly charred tail after the flames were extinguished.

"That's it!" Feline's calm demeanour changed in an instant, her green eyes turning furious. You felt a cold shudder running down your spine as you laid eyes upon her. Wildly charging at her opponent, she managed to cut deeply into Degree's flesh and thus left her white suit torn around her stomach. Blood seeped out of the wound, staining the expensive suit. "I'll blow out your fire soon, dear," she cackled and pulled the heroine up by her collar.

A fit of coughs escaped Degree's throat, but still, the determined and fearless scowl remained on her masked face. A crazy grin adorned the villainess' red lips as she waved her sharp claws in front of the heroine's purple eyes. You feared for the worst, but you were unable to stop the horrid situation in front of you. After all, you weren't a hero.

All of a sudden, a throwing knife zoomed past Feline's head. The female jumped in surprise, letting go of Degree in the process. Even though the cat tried to scramble back to her feet, a weight on her chest pushed her back to the ground. Myth was holding her down with his left foot and looked down at the defeated villain triumphantly.

"What do you say in your defence, cornered cat?" Myth gazed over at Degree once she joined his side, albeit begrudgingly. Looking to your left, you found Golem on the ground — knocked out cold. When had Myth done that? You didn't even notice that he had been present the whole time. "Cat got your tongue?" he asked after silence consumed the building.

Feline narrowed her eyes when Degree reached into one of her pockets, the string of your necklace poking out. Fishing it out, she held it up with a little smile on her rosy lips. "I believe this doesn't belong to you," Degree spitefully muttered towards the villain on the ground before throwing it over to you. Clumsily, you caught it with shaking hands. Holding it close to your heart, you could feel your fear slowly vanishing.

"We're not done yet, heroes," Feline purred with newfound determination.

"Oh, but it does look like we're done."

"A good villain always has a trick up their sleeves—" she exclaimed calmly before thick smoke filled the corridor. Your sight obstructed by the fog, you could only hear groans and soft footsteps vanishing into the distance. When the smoke escaped through the shattered window, you found Myth lying on the ground with Degree getting up a few metres away from him.

"We should have been more alert," Degree commented gruffly as she turned around to pace up and down, wondering if it was still beneficial enough to follow the escaped culprits. Securely putting your necklace into the pockets of your jacket, you carefully made your way towards the two heroes. Stopping right next to the male, you looked down worriedly.

"We'll get her next time. Don't worry," Myth muttered while he still laid on the ground, his green hues following the figure of the other hero. At first, he didn't notice your extended hand to help him up. But when he did, it caused his heart to skip a beat. Of course it did; it was his crush looming above him.

When his gloved hand encased your bare one, he couldn't help but smile like an idiot, not wanting to let your warm hand go. With a roll of your eyes, you shook off his hand with a click of your tongue.

"You know, Myth, I could have held my own," Degree spoke. Her purple eyes turned cold. She crossed her arms, wincing slightly when she felt a horrible pain shooting through her abdomen. "I like to work alone anyway... you'd only get in my way."

"But you were about to get your eyes clawed out by that crazy cat!" Myth replied furiously; his green eyes seemed to be lit on fire. Degree rolled her eyes before shaking her head in denial.

"Listen, Halo City only needs one hero to protect it." Degree jabbed her finger into Myth's chest. With a little grin, she added, "And that's me. The Flame of Justice — Degree."

"Who are you to say that?!" Myth looked like he was about to flip a table. His chest heaved up and down from breathing heavily. Having enough, you stepped in between the two bickering toddlers.

"Guys, guys!" you shouted once they both looked like they were about to kill each other. Catching their attention, they stopped in their tracks, looking at you as they waited for you to carry on speaking. "You two are on the same team... so why would you fight each other? Halo City needs all the heroes it can get! How about being colleagues instead of rivals?"

You couldn't believe that you were trying to get two heroes to like and work with each other. After all, you hated them for being what killed your mother — pesky heroes that swore to do good. But now that you were saved twice by the likes of them, you couldn't help but feel grateful for their deeds.

"(Y/n) is right, Degree." Myth sighed, extending his hand for the other hero to shake. She stared at his hand, her eyebrows furrowed as she seemed to dislike the thought of sharing the limelight with another hero. But as she noticed your deathly glare, she sighed softly before giving his hand a firm shake.

"Just so you know, I still don't like working with you," she muttered under her breath; her purple eyes shot daggers at her new teammate. Myth only chuckled quietly, giving you a small wink. You hummed with an accomplished smile on your face. "And I probably never will."

"I'll have to change that, dear." Myth laughed and shook his head in amusement. Letting go of her hand, his sparkling eyes turned over to you. With flushed cheeks, he sheepishly rubbed his neck. "Is there anything I can do to help you, sweetie?"

"You mean 'we'..." Degree huffed as she smacked his arm. He winced slightly in pain. "We're a team now, forgot that?"

"No, I don't need anything." An amused smile adorned your lips.

"Let's go then, (Y/n)." Degree smiled as her purple eyes softened, taking your hand and guiding you out of the school building. Weirdly, she knew when to turn and when not to; had she been to this school before? Myth followed suit, skipping right next to you as he snuck glances at his favourite character.

It's hard to earn a good reputation — even harder to lose a bad reputation.

Your teachers and fellow classmates were relieved when you arrived at the front plaza with the two heroes by your side. The police immediately checked if you were alright — whether it was shock or any injuries. Hastily, you nodded and quickly answered all the questions they bombarded you with.

But all those words were drowned out by your urgent need to speak with your uncle. He was the only family you had left; he was the only one you could talk to.

"We will have to excuse ourselves," Myth and Degree exclaimed simultaneously, causing them to look at each other funnily. Shrugging, Myth flew off into the distance while Degree jumped across buildings until she vanished. Spectators called their names, cheering for the protectors of Halo City.

With a little smile, you watched, too, as your two saviours disappeared from your sight. Shaking off the uneasy feeling in the depths of your stomach, the crowd of teachers and students dissolved once the police gave the clearing signal.

Taking a deep breath, you let your legs guide yourself down the street that would take you to the humble abode of your late uncle. Hopefully he could tell you why all of these weird things had been happening to you lately.

If someone knew what to do, it was him—

Uncle Henry.
