Chapter 31 : Cookies and cup cakes.

Third person point of view

Over the weekend, Joshua was bored from watching movies and too lazy to go out. He sat on the couch beside Elijah who was reading a magazine. He couldn't help but wonder where he got them from. " Where did you get it from ? " He asked with narrowed eyes. " In a shop nearby. Why ? " Joshua scoffed. For someone who stays all holed up 24 hrs, he wanted Joshua to believe he went and got it. Joshua really wanted to hit Elijah.

" You want me to kill you ? " Elijah looked up from the book giving a look of ' I don't get what you mean' . Joshua let out a frustrated huff and let it be. Elijah went back to his magazine. Joshua was only going to increase his own blood pressure if he spoke more, which isn't a nice thing anyway. But he couldn't sit still. He turned to Elijah again. Well he was the only person with him. " Elijah, I'm bored ". " So ? What do you want to do ? " " How about cooking ? " Joshua's eyes lit up. 

Elijah put the magazine aside. " Sure. How about trying omelette again ? " " No way. It is so boring. How about something like baking ? " " You really want to burn the house down ". Joshua glared at Elijah who just smiled in return. " But I don't think we have all the things we need. What will you bake anyway ? " Joshua gave a small smile at Elijah's reply. " Cup cakes maybe. Not big cakes. It might be difficult ". 

" Then I guess we need molds and I don't know if we have flour and few other things. Let me check ". Elijah walked into the kitchen. " We need a lot of them ". Joshua pouted. Elijah thought for a second. " Let me go buy them ". " Really ? " Elijah nodded and got his wallet. " I will also come ". Joshua went to his room and came back out with some money. 

Elijah nodded and both of them decided to go together. Elijah walked to the door but stopped from opening and turned around. " How much will it cost in case we need to renovate this house ? " Joshua stopped moving. " Let's see if you will get stuffed in the cup cakes or not. Let's go get them now ". Joshua dead panned. Elijah chuckled and they left the house. 

They went to the mart and started going around. Joshua didn't say much as Elijah picked the things he wanted. " Which flavor do you want to make ? " " A little of everything maybe ". Elijah nodded. " Let's get some sprinkles and all too ". " Are you a kid ? " Joshua rolled his eyes. " Is it written on the package that it is for kids ? " Elijah opened his mouth to refute, but he had nothing to say. 

He could only agree. " Just get whatever you want ". Joshua ran away happily. Elijah shook his head and picked up other things he wanted. Joshua came with his hands full of multiple things he could use to decorate and use as toppings for the cup cakes. Joshua smiled happily. Elijah was done with all the things required and he also picked the things he required other than ones for baking. 

Might as well get them since he came out. They were done and got them all billed. " Let me pay ". Joshua took out the money from his pocket and paid. Elijah raised his eyebrow. " Why did you pay for all of it ? I could've paid half of it ". " It is fine. It is me who asked to do this. So don't worry ". They picked up the bags and walked out. Joshua took out a lollipop and started eating it. 

Elijah stared at him in disbelief. " What ? " Joshua asked not knowing why Elijah was giving him that look. " You really got that ? " " What is wrong with this ? " Joshua continued ignoring Elijah. Elijah shook his head and they walked back. Joshua entered the kitchen all excited. They put the bags and took out all the things they got.

They put other things away and arranged the ones they want on the counter. " So ? " Elijah eyed Joshua's hands. Joshua went to wash his hands and Elijah did too. " First we will mix all dry ingredients together and then we will go for the other ones ". Elijah took a big bowl to put all the dry ingredients in required quantities. 

" You got this too ? " Joshua asked looking at the blender. " You will not be able to use your hands later if I ask you to mix them with your own hands. And I don't want you nagging at me ". Elijah chuckled. He put the wet ingredients into another bowl. He let Joshua mix them without spilling much. Elijah held Joshua's hand helping him mix them. 

Joshua gulped at the contact. He thought it would be fine since it has been a while but looks like it wasn't. They were also a little close. Elijah looked down at Joshua who was mixing the batter and smiled. Joshua wanted to move away but didn't want to at the same time. At the end he just let it be. He didn't do that bad under Elijah's instructions. 

Elijah took out the molds and greased them. " Here. Put that batter in them ". Joshua carefully put it in them. Elijah put them in the oven and set the timer. " Done. Now while they bake let's make the icing ". Joshua nodded and Elijah picked up another big bowl. He prepared the items required. 

" Let's start ". Elijah mixed it this time as the consistency mattered and Joshua assisted him from the side. Elijah separated them into small quantities. " Mix the colors you want to ". He told Joshua who smiled and also helped this time for mixing the colors. " Done ". Elijah picked up the piping bags.

They filled them and put them in the refrigerator. Joshua sat down with a huff. " Let's put these aside and clean up. You can rest after that ". Joshua nodded and got up. They both put the dishes in the wash basin and cleared the counter. They washed their hands and sat on the couch. " Why did you suddenly want to bake cup cakes ? " Joshua shrugged. 

" Life is not all about guns and weapons, it can be cookies and cup cakes too ". Elijah shook his head but he still smiled. Joshua smiled too seeing Elijah's smile. " Just kidding. Since you wanted to teach I thought why not try something I want to ". Elijah nodded. " Nice ". " Also, in case I lose my job, I can open a bakery ". Elijah laughed. 

" I wouldn't say it is a bad idea. But you are not bad at work, so why bakery ? " " I like doing it by myself than work maybe. It would be a new experience too ". Elijah nodded. " How much more time ? " " Don't worry. It will give a beep when it is done ". After a while they were baked and Elijah took them out carefully. 

Joshua picked up the icing cones and tried it. He wasn't that good, but they weren't all bad too. Once done with it, Joshua tasted them first. They came out well. " They are really tasty ". Elijah tasted too and they were indeed good. " We should try some more flavors next time; different ones ". Elijah smiled at how excited Joshua looked. " Sure ". They ate a few and stored the others.

Author and BR : (turns to Elijah)

BR : Will you give us some ?

Elijah : Sure.

Author : ( questioning their own existence ) ......................why..........am I not okay that you answered so quickly and a yes at that ? You are not going to poison them are you ? I don't want to die young.

Elijah : What do you take me for ?

BR : You are Elijah........................ and that is the thing.

Author : (nods)

Elijah : Up to you then. Eat or not, your wish. Only giving is my duty. (shrugs)

Author and BR : (eat them)

Author : They are really tasty.

BR : And we are still alive. (turn to Elijah)

Author : Thanks (smiles)

Elijah : No mention.

My BR is surprised that we are alive. We are really craving some cake now. 😂
