Yoongi's POV -

My physical feeling comes back before anything else. All I'm aware of is that there's definitely something in my throat, and it's forcing me to gag. I try to scream, to get someone to help me, but I can't make any sound with this thing blocking the way. I can feel that I'm breathing, but I'm not so sure I'm doing it myself, the gagging just seems to be happening around it. I will my arms to move, to claw out whatever's in the way, but they don't seem to want to.

A hand rests on my shoulder as the involuntary gags continue. I need them to help me, but they just keep squeezing the one shoulder. "Come on, Yoongi, it's time to wake up."

My eyes snap open at the voice, and my hand instinctively goes to my mouth, but there's nothing there. There's no hand on my shoulder, or anyone leaning over me. There's curtains drawn around the bed I'm lying in, and my ears hone into the busy sounds of a ward. There's a call alarm ringing, and beeping monitors from all corners of the room. I feel so dazed and confused I can't bring myself to move.

"Easy, hyung," a voice says next to me. I look over at Namjoon, who's sitting placidly in the armchair next to the bed. His hands stay in his lap as he watches me. I don't understand why he isn't holding mine. Why am I in hospital?

I go to reach out to him, but pain flares through my shoulder and down my arm. It's so sharp I can't even scream. My mouth flies open, but only a soft and croaky "Ah ..." comes from me.

Namjoon sits up straight, resting one of his hands onto the crook of my elbow. "Don't move your arm, Yoongi. You'll rip your stitches."

"I don't understand!" I whine, then find myself bursting into tears. I want to sit up, but the pain in my shoulder won't go away.

"Shh," he soothes, moving to stroke my hair instead. That's Hoseoks's thing, but I find it extremely comforting at this moment. "You've only just come out of surgery, hyung. You woke up a little just after, but you were still pretty sedated, so you fell asleep again. Do you remember?"

The fog in my brain shifts a little. It comes back to me in little pieces; how the pain in my shoulder kept getting worse and worse until I could barely move it. It turns out I had a labral tear, which needed surgery for it to get better. I had injured it years ago, but it just wouldn't heal. Is that the surgery I'm coming around from?

"My appendix?" I sniffle stupidly, despite having just remembered my shoulder.

Namjoon just grins at me. "No, your shoulder, Yoongi. You have a lot of medicine in your system, okay? The confusion will go away."

I look down at my body. My arm is supported in a black sling, keeping my arm across my chest. There's lots of cushioning and padding around it so I won't move it.

"There's something in my throat," I whisper, which makes Namjoon's smile turn into a frown. I can't feel anything there anymore, but it feels important to say. I should have it checked, right?

Namjoon gets up to find a nurse, but I find my eyes slipping shut before they can come back. I just feel so exhausted ... though I don't know why ...

There's a different person in the armchair when I open my eyes. Seokjin watches me carefully, a gaming magazine still in his hands. I give him a soft smile, followed by a long sigh.

"How are you feeling?" he asks quietly, his words almost drowned out by the noisy ward. Someone is shouting in the distance, followed by a flurry of shushes. It's not very relaxing, and my arm is sore and uncomfortable.
