Taehyung's POV -

My twin brother Jungkook was born with a congenital heart defect called Long QT syndrome. Essentially, sometimes the QT rhythm in his heart gets too long, stopping oxygenated blood from getting around his body. His heart tries to follow its normal rhythm despite this, causing a bad arrhythmia called torsades de pointes. Basically it means his heart gets all out of whack.

No one knew he had it until we were 13. We were in PE class together, playing baseball, when he suddenly just collapsed. Our entire class freaked out, which made my panic for him much worse. His mouth went a little blue, and our teacher was about to give him mouth to mouth when he came around again. One of the boys in our class had to get the nurse, and he was taken back inside. Since we have a close twin bond, the PE teacher let me go with him.

Whilst he was checked over in the nurse's office, and he seemed to have made a complete recovery, our parents were called to come and collect him. I weaselled my round getting to go home, too. To be fair, I was pretty shaken up.

Nothing came from that first event. Mum called a doctor to have him checked over again, but the doctor said it was likely stress, or that PE was our lesson before lunch and Jungkook was faint from hunger. We got takeaway food that night to cheer Jungkook up, though he didn't seem that phased by his black out. He got to stay home from school the next day, but I had to go in, and deal with the allegations that he had dropped dead.

Two weeks later, Jungkook fainted again. It was early in the morning, and, thanks to me misplacing my glasses, we were late for the bus. We ran all the way to the bus stop, which was an uphill journey. The bus had gone by the time we got there, so it was all for nothing. Jungkook took two gasping breaths next to me, then he was on the floor, his face completely ashen. I waited for him to come around, then took him back home to explain. This time, he was pretty fuzzy, and seemed distant as mum and dad flapped around him.

They decided this deserved a hospital trip, since it was the second time in that same month with no answer the first time. We got to sit in A and E for three hours instead of sitting our Japanese mock exam. Jungkook had gone back to a healthy colour, and he seemed a bit more with it. He had a CT head scan, which came back inconclusive, and some blood tests, which were also inconclusive. The doctor said it could have been from the temperature, since it was the height of summer.

Things took a turn for the worse three months later. Life had continued on as normal for us until that point. Jungkook was cautious during PE, since both of the times he fainted had involved exercise, but nothing happened. The summer holidays passed, and we went on holiday and did loads of sport without anything happening.

It was October, just past our 14th birthday, when our alarm went off for school. Doing what I do best, I put the alarm on a ten minute snooze and rolled over. I was just getting comfy again when I heard Jungkook whine. It wasn't a I-don't-want-to-get-up sort of whine, but a forced one. It sounded so odd it made me sit up and stare over at him.

He was completely tensed up, on his side and facing me. His mouth was wide open, his eyes rolled up, limbs pin straight. He looked like he was in agony, but when I shouted his name, he didn't respond. I screamed for our parents, who came running as I ripped the blanket away from Jungkook. His lips were blue again, and he definitely wasn't breathing. After a couple more seconds of us just staring at him, he started convulsing.

Our mum had trained to be a nurse when she was in college, but had changed her mind and worked as a kindergarten teacher instead. She had some first aid knowledge, so she kept Jungkook's head protected as he seized, patting his back when he aspirated, whilst dad called for an ambulance and I cried. His seizure was only a minute long, but he wasn't responding afterwards, and it sounded like he was snoring. Mum tried to soothe me by saying it was normal, but nothing about the situation was normal, so it didn't calm me down at all.
