Chapter 2

"Your highness!"

Kunting pagkakamali lang you're punishing me na!"

"Dami mong reklamo," sabi niya.

At school, Sam was still grumpy and every student she came accross iritated her without any reason at all. And then what?

It never failed to stress her everytime she thought of her hard days to cut some weight. Those were 'killing days'.

"Sam, nangyari sa mukha mo?" Ru asked, a hint of concern touched her eyes.

"This is nothing," Sam said.

Ru knew she was lying. "Dahil ba 'to sa panlilibre mo sa amin ni Vegh kagabi?" she said, thoughtfully.

"Di pa kami naghihirap, Ru," Sam answered, soft as gelatin. "Wala 'to."

"Jeez. Then cheer up!" Ru exclaimed. "You're making me gloomy for goodsake."

Sam looked up at her friend and she wondered if Ru had a period to explain all that mood swings that morning. Or it might Ru's friendly concern for her to brighten up, casting all negative vibes away. Sam couldn't figure which.

Sam tried to get bubbly but someone arrived at their table retelling her her grudges. Vegh, her chocolate-addicted friend, was carrying a friendly pack of chocolate that made her mouth watered. When was the last time she'd eaten one? God, even she couldn't tell when. "Good morning, Sam. Good morning, Ru," bati nito sa kanila.

"Chocolates na agad!" Ru was horrified when Vegh slashed the wrapper. It was early in the morning and first period hadn't started yet. Masyadong maaga pa para kumain ng matamis pero para sa kanilang kaibigang si Vegh, every time is perfect time to indulge on chocolates.

The sight made Sam's mind beflooded with pictures of cheezy chips, softdrinks, sweets, cakes, and her favorite--ice cream. Sam cried, "This is not fair! How come you're not gaining a pound when you're eating chocolates nonstop?!"

To her dismay Vegh just shrug. Her lucky friend didn't know and she realized there was nothing such secrets to eating without gaining. She was hopeless.

"It's in her system," Ru would simply say.

"Lupet mo naman, Ru!" Sam was dramatic. There was a hurt look on her round face (not as round when she still had the extra pounds).

Vegh and Ru exchanged knowing looks. They thought: Sam is having her period. Understand her.

She was acting high because she was frustrated and she didn't know what to do with it. Now her frustration grew double.
